GreenTech holds grand opening of neighborhood electric vehicle plant

GreenTech Automotive (GTA), a U.S. automotive manufacturer dedicated to developing and producing environmentally friendly, energy-efficient vehicles, yesterday celebrated the grand opening of its new production facility in Tunica.

"We started GreenTech Automotive with the vision to make energy-efficient cars that are so inexpensive the average American could afford to buy them," said Charles Wang, chairman and CEO of GTA. "In the past five years we have completely redesigned and reengineered the all-electric MyCar; developed strategic relationships with major automotive OEMs; and attracted, trained and retained a dedicated workforce in Mississippi. Completing this state-of-the-art facility, designed and built specifically for GTA's unique production needs, brings us another step closer to making that dream a reality."

By the Numbers: Tracking Carrier Performance

If you want to know what's going right-or wrong-with your carriers, look to the numbers. Some transportation companies are so eager to demonstrate the great job they're doing, they monitor their own performance against specific goals, and publish the results to their customers. In other cases, shippers capture data on carrier activity and use it to assemble carrier performance reports.

Either way, performance reports offer fodder for crucial conversations between shippers and their transportation partners. Carrier metrics can help determine who gets more of your freight in the future, and who gets less. They can provide substance for price negotiations, and inspire both parties to modify processes to achieve more efficient and effective transportation. How well is your carrier working for you? Here are several approaches that could help you find out.

Army Col. Elizabeth Delbridge-Keough, commander of DLA Europe & Africa, was among the first military members to deploy to Liberia after President Barack Obama announced the deployment of U.S. service members for Operation United Assistance. She was also the first DLA representative there and helped pave the way for logistics support of the 4,000 troops expected to assist in the fight against Ebola in West Africa. Here, she describes the challenges and the work DLA is doing to pre-position supplies.
Q: How soon after President Obama announced the plan to send troops to West Africa did you deploy, and what were some of the first actions you took to initiate DLA's support?

A: I was on a plane heading to Liberia for a leaders' reconnaissance trip with U.S. Army Africa Commander Army Maj. Gen. Darryl Williams and his staff when the president made his announcement. It was supposed to be a two-day trip, but we ended up becoming the Defense Department's advance party.

CANTON - Nissan's Canton Vehicle Assembly Plant has gone global as the company rolls the first all-new 2015 Nissan Murano off the line today, marking the first time the model has been produced in the U.S.

Nissan Canton is now the company's worldwide hub for Murano production, expanding export opportunities from the plant to more than 100 markets.

"The strategic investments that Nissan has made in Canton serve as a testament to the flexibility, efficiency and talent of our workforce and suppliers," said John Martin, Nissan's senior vice president, Manufacturing, Supply Chain Management and Purchasing. "In Canton, we build high-quality vehicles that compete and win globally, and the bold new Murano will build on that reputation."
