Navistar Defense to hire at least 200 people

Across North Mississippi, counties are still struggling under the weight of high unemployment rates.Clay County is among the counties most affected, but finally, there is some good news for that area.

Retailers' concerns mount over expired longshoremen's contract

Retailers concerned by the lack of a West Coast longshoremen's contract will continue to bring merchandise into the country at above-average levels this month but volume will drop from the record set in August, according to the monthly Global Port Tracker report released today by the National Retail Federation and Hackett Associates.

"The negotiations have made progress and retailers have been stocking up, but there's still cargo that needs to arrive before the holiday season kicks off," NRF Vice President for Supply Chain and Customs Policy Jonathan Gold said. "Retailers are making sure that consumer demand during the holidays will be met."

MDOT receives regional award for work on Sangani Boulevard

The Mississippi Department of Transportation received top honors in the southeast regional America's Transportation Awards for its work on Sangani Boulevard in D'Iberville.

It won in the Quality of Life/Community Development category.

 

The $7.7 million project built a new overpass, four travel lanes and a multi-use pathway. The project was finished a year and a half ahead of schedule.

John Fayard Moving & Warehousing expands in Gulfport

John Fayard Moving & Warehousing has invested $2.3 million to build a new facility in the city's Bernard Bayou Industrial District.

Construction is complete on a 38,500-square-foot warehouse and storage facility and work has begun on a railroad spur from the new building to the Kansas City Southern lead track.

The land for the new warehouse was purchased from the Harrison County Development Commission, which also helped the company secure a grant through Mississippi Development Authority's Development Infrastructure Program for the railroad spur.
