ALUMNI SPOTLIGHT - STACY LESTER 


Upon finishing her masters in economic development in 2008, Stacy Lester joined the Mississippi Development Authority's global business recruitment team as a project manager. In this role, she served as the primary point of contact for communities and site location consultants on state led industrial projects. 

 

During her tenure at MDA, Stacy helped to create 1200 new jobs and $300 million in investment throughout the State of Mississippi. Her primary focus was in the advanced material and chemicals sector, but she helped to coordinate a variety of different projects reaching across all sectors. 

 

Stacy remained in her MDA project manager role for 5 years before taking on her current role with Mississippi Power. In her new capacity, Stacy serves as an economic development representative for the Pine Belt. She is responsible for supporting 9 counties in their economic development efforts.

THE TRENT LOTT NATIONAL CENTER ADVISORY COUNCIL MEETS AND DEVELOPS RECOMMENDATIONS


Thirty-two members of the Trent Lott National Center (TLNC) Advisory Council met on November 6th.  After a briefing on activities of the TLNC and the new Masters of Science in Economic Development (MSED) program curriculum, the council broke into committees to collect advisor's input and develop action items.  The committees include the 1) MSED program & academic curriculum, 2) Research & Special Projects, 3) Entrepreneurship, Innovation & Small Business, 4) and Professional Development. The faculty and staff of the TLNC have already implemented some of the recommendations and began work on the other items. 

MSED GRADUATE ASSISTANT CREATES YOUTUBE VIDEO


MSED Graduate Assistant, Wuyang Wang, has been developing a video library of presentations by economic development practitioners and videos for the program. Her most recent work is a YouTube video montage of class presentations and interviews with students. 

 

Wuyang will finish the program in the spring and did her internship with the Historic Hattiesburg Downtown Association last summer. She comes from Dalian in northeast China. She got her Bachelor's degree in Broadcasting & Television Science at Dalian University of Technology in China. 

 

Upon graduation, Wuyang would like to pursue a career in regional economic development.
