Updated MSED Curriculum Has Begun with New Real Estate Development Class


The recommended curriculum changes coming out of the 2012 Comprehensive Review of the hybrid in-person/on-line executive MSED program by Donald T. Iannone & Associates has become a reality starting this fall. In addition to changing from quarterly classes to eight-week classes with 1.5 days of in-person, new courses have been added such as ED 736 Real Estate and Land Use Planning. ED 736 teaches the major concepts and practices associated with real estate and planning related to economic development. Dr. Mark Miller taught the new class which included talks by Andy Stetelman of London & Stetelman Commercial Realtors and Jay C. Estes of Operations, Eco-Systems, Inc. in addition to a guided tour of Historic Hattiesburg Downtown redevelopment by Adam Myrick & Jason Le Viere of Click Boutique and a class project examining the Hattiesburg Midtown project.  The social networking event at Robert St. John custom cocktail lounge, the Branch, included a talk by Dusty Frierson of Purple Parrot Company, Inc. 

SOUTHERN MISS NPHC CHAPTER AND NCS4 TO HONOR 9/11 VICTIMS, FIRST RESPONDERS


The University of Southern Mississippi chapter of the National Pan-Hellenic Council (NPHC) and the National Center for Spectator Sports Safety and Security (NCS4) will host a "9/11 Observance Reception" Wednesday, Sept. 11 to recognize and promote charitable services and other community outreach efforts that honor the victims of the 2001 terrorist attacks.

 

In addition, a 111-pound piece of twisted steel from the World Trade Center will be unveiled in its new permanent home on the 2nd floor at the Trent Lott National Center on the Southern Miss campus.

 

"The 9/11 Sports Safety and Security Memorial signifies the university's commitment to NCS4 to provide research, education and training to address safety and security issues at sporting events throughout the United States," said Dr. Gordon Cannon, vice president for Research at Southern Miss. Learn More

TRUE SOUTH ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT COURSE FILLED TO CAPACITY


We are thrilled to announce that the upcoming 2013 True South Basic Economic Development Course has reached its maximum enrollment capacity of 50 participants! The list of participants includes working professionals and graduate students seeking to expand their understanding of economic development concepts. The course will run from September 23 through 26 at the USM Accelerator located in the Innovation and Commercialization Park in Hattiesburg, Mississippi.
