Army Maj. Craig M. Sumrall, a recent graduate of the on-line Master of Science in Logistics, Trade and Transportation (MSLTT), and Army Capt. David E. Leiva, a candidate for the Master of Science in Economic Development, recently organized a one-day gathering of 13 federal, state and local agencies to discuss the criteria necessary for the Port of Gulfport to become designated a "strategic port" by the Defense Department. Sumrall and Leiva are stationed at Camp Shelby Joint Forces Training Center, just south of Hattiesburg. |
Brig. Gen. Patrick C. Higby Takes Command at Keesler Air Force Base |
Keesler Air Force Base conducted a change of command ceremony Friday morning to officially transfer command to the new 81st Training Wing commander, Brig. Gen. Patrick C. Higby. Higby replaced Brig. Gen. Brad Spacy, who has been reassigned as director, logistics and mission support at Headquarters United States Air Forces at Ramstein Air Base in Germany.

Shuster: Transportation Investment is Tied to the Nation's Economic Competitiveness |
Improving and maintaining American transportation infrastructure is critical to the nation remaining economically competitive in a global marketplace, U.S. House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee Chairman Bill Shuster (R-Pa.) told a gathering of community and business leaders in Cleveland earlier this week.
"Without safe and efficient transportation, we can't be competitive," said Shuster, who was the keynote speaker at the annual meeting of Build Up Greater Cleveland, a northeast Ohio coalition of agencies involved in infrastructure issues.

Port of Pascagoula Wins $14 Million Grant to Relocate Downtown Railroad Interchange |
The Port of Pascagoula has been awarded a $14 million grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation to relocate the railroad interchange that blocks traffic every day in downtown Pascagoula.
The funds are part of the Transportation Investment Generating Economic Recovery discretionary grant program, and the port will use its $14 million for the intermodal improvement.
