TRANSPORTATION LOGISTICS AND THE ECONOMIC DEVELOPER

It is becoming increasingly more apparent that Economic Developers must possess an understanding of the transportation industry.  In a struggling economy, it is incumbent upon the Economic Developer to find efficient and effective ways in which businesses can successfully operate.  In addition, promoting a transportation and logistics infrastructure which utilizes cost-saving strategies is a critical component of recruitment and business retention and expansion.

COMMENTARY: LOGISTICS MISCONSTRUED
For the past few years, U.S. military doctrine developers have been busy refunctionalizing warfare-- that is, reorganizing terms and concepts. One of their proclaimed joint functions is sustainment, which is subdivided into two categories: logistics and personnel services. The military definition of logistics is somehow now subordinate to the professed enveloping concept of sustainment. In my view, this change is an institutional mistake with important consequences in communicating how we act or should act in the design of our military and in the design of military interventions. My reasons include the total systems myopia and problems with the externalities and internalities of meaning associated with sustainment.

NAVAL AIR SYSTEMS COMMAND'S INTERNATIONAL TRANSPORTATION COMPLIANCE AND HAZARDOUS MATERIAL
neel-schafer
The Naval Air Systems Command's International Transportation Compliance and Hazardous Material meeting is scheduled for 30-31 July 2013 at Keesler AFB in Biloxi, Mississippi. The purpose of this meeting is for U.S. Department of Defense, Foreign Military Sales Partners, Industry, and other U.S. Agencies to gain an enhanced understanding and knowledge of the transportation management processes for military equipment.

The global security environment continues to present an increasingly complex set of challenges and opportunities for the Department of Defense and our International Allies & Partners to counter and diffuse catastrophic threats that could directly affect our security, communication, and productivity with like-minded nations. In addition, both import and export of equipment and material can be a bureaucratic and slow process. The need to understand the legal compliance and safe requirements in shipping military products and Hazardous Material is paramount to saving lives and thus demands that the right equipment arrives at the correct locations on time and within budget in support of the Department of Defense and our Allies & Partners.
