CENTER FOR LOGISTICS, TRADE, AND TRANSPORTATION CO-HOST  WORKSHOP

The Gulf Region Intelligent Transportation Society (GRITS) and the University of Southern Mississippi's Center for Logistics, Trade and Transportation (CLTT) hosted the Spring 2013 Regional Workshop focused on Weigh-in-Motion technology and Interagency Coordination. The workshop was sponsored by Temple, Inc. and Neel-Schaffer.   

The workshop, held at the university's Hattiesburg campus, featured guest speakers: Tulio Sulbaran, Bob Susor, Bobby Hayes, Jim Hennessey and Jeff Smith. The speakers discussed several topics including: Weigh-in-Motion Technology, Weigh-in-Motion Case Study, Interagency Cooperation in ITS Applications and The "Hub" City - Over a Decade of ITS Planning and Implementation.

RETROGRADE LESSONS: LEARNING FROM AFGANISTAN'S LOGISTICAL NIGHTMARE

Much has, of course, been written about the exact art and subtle science of moving troops great distances; of feeding them and housing them; of equipping, arming, and resupplying them while the fight rages; and of bringing them-and their material support-back home once hostilities draw to a close. Mention the topic to logisticians in uniform, and you'll probably hear some version of the line, "Amateurs talk tactics, but professionals talk logistics," a quote often attributed to General Robert H. Barrow, the 27th Commandant of the Marine Corps.

PROCUREMENT OPPORTUNITY WITH THE PORT OF GULFPORT RESTORATION PROGRAM

The Mississippi State Port Authority at Gulfport (MSPA) has authorized the advertisement to bid on the West Pier Wharf Upgrade, Project No. 013. Click here to view the complete legal notice advertising this project.

The work consists of, but is not limited to: Furnish all materials, equipment, labor, and supervision and perform all operations necessary for the completion of the MSPA West Pier Wharf Upgrade Project No. 013 as described in the Contract Documents. The Contractor shall provide and furnish all tools, equipment, materials, supervision, labor, subsistence, rental, subcontractors, permitting, profit, overhead, appropriate taxes and any other related costs to construct the upgrade of approximately 3,700 linear feet of wharf on the West Pier to accommodate future rail mounted ship-to-shore cranes in three phases with all items and components as provided in the Contract Documents. The Contractor shall provide all materials required, except those specifically indicated as being Owner Furnished by the MSPA. The work includes all that is necessary to provide the Owner with a complete project.

STUDENTS TRAVEL TO PANAMA FOR STUDY ABROAD

Students from USM will be traveling to Panama in May to earn 6 credit hours as a part of the study abroad program. This year will be the fourth time USM has offered a study abroad to Panama due to the enjoyment and success of previous trips. The ten day venture starts on May 25th and will be ending June 3rd.

Students traveling to Panama will get to explore its rich history and even to the iconic Panama Canal. While getting toured around certain parts of the country students will get to experience many aspects of Latin culture while making fond memories that will last a lifetime. Students will get to see first on how projects dealing with high end logistics and business operate both on a day to day basis as well as long term operations. Along with getting to visit projects dealing with logistics and business, participants in the study abroad program will also get a chance to meet and network with experts in the field.

U.S. COMMERCIAL SERVICE OPPORTUNITIES IN CENTRAL AMERICA BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT CONFERENCE & TRADE MISSION
The U.S. Commercial Service is organizing a trade mission in conjunction with the Opportunities in Central America Business Development Conference in San Jose, Costa Rica on July 15-19, 2013. Trade mission participants will be able to take part in the conference and have business-to-business meetings in up to two of the following countries: Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, and potentially Nicaragua and Belize.
