MSED ALUM PROMOTED


J.R. Robinson (MSED '11) was promoted to Business Development Director of the Area Development Partnership (ADP). The ADP is a private, non-profit organization dedicated to improving the quality of life for citizens of Greater Hattiesburg through community and economic development.  JR will manage the economic development division for the ADP. His duties will include developing and planning strategic initiatives for the economic development division to further enhance business recruitment and retention efforts in Greater Hattiesburg.

HARDY STREET REVITALIZATION CHARRETTES


MSED students Wuyang Wang, Daniel Assamah, Josiah Ball, Alex Pickle, Colbey Sparkman, Faisal Mallum and Xinxin Cui participated in the Hardy Street Revitalization Charrettes. This is part of a city wide effort to improve the corridors to downtown Hattiesburg. The plan calls for bike lanes, widened sidewalks, tree lined medians, and coding to try to return this boulevard to it former grandeur. Last summer as their capstone project, MSED students conducted a retail market analysis on the corridor

ASSET MAPPING DOWNTOWN MCCOMB WITH MDA 


USM Geography students worked with Mississippi Development Authority's Asset Development Group to identify and map downtown McComb, Mississippi's many assets for potential development. Xinxin Cui represented USM's Center for Logistics, Trade, & Transportation, and USM Economic Development interim chair Mark M. Miller directed the student group. The group of young students was impressed with McComb's musical heritage, many historic downtown buildings, existing restaurants, and McComb's key Interstate location between Jackson and New Orleans. They noted several small and inexpensive interventions that might attract more visitors, including promotion through social media and decorative enhancements downtown.
