T
his month's spotlight is on one of our newest staff
members here at Mychal's, Jamie Duran. Jamie first joined us as an intern in September of 2015 and has now come on board our Path to Independence Program.
Our Path to Independence student, Ryan J., sat down with Jamie to ask her a few questions about being Support Staff, as well as what brought her to Mychal's Learning Place.
Q. Hello Jamie, I want to start off by asking you, what are some of your favorite hobbies?
A. My favorite hobby is playing Softball! I have played for quite some time and it is something I love to do. I also enjoy taking pictures on my Polaroid camera and volunteering my time.
Q. What brought you to Mychal's Learning Place?
A. I was on my school website looking for an internship and I came across Mychal's Learning Place. I looked up the website and I loved the mission statement along with everything else. I contacted Ellen Silver to set up a meeting so I could learn more about Mychal's, and from there, the rest is history!
Q. What school did you go to?
A. I attended the California State University of Dominguez Hills and graduated in May 2016 with my BA in Human Services.
Q. What makes our mission meaningful to you?
A. Mychal's fosters independence, and that is definitely what makes the mission statement so meaningful to me. I believe everyone should have a fair chance at life and Mychal's provides students with opportunities to build self-esteem and be independent.
Q. What inspired you to work here?
A. I love helping others! It is a true passion of mine. Getting to work with all of the Students is just amazing. I love being able to come in everyday and see their faces.
We are pleased to have Jamie as our newest staff member. She brings enthusiasm, positivity, and a strong sense of commitment to our students. Thank you Jamie, and to Ryan for conducting the interview!
