Summer is on our heels! We had a fabulous month of May, and now we're moving into another busy month. There's plenty ahead, so stay tuned for what's coming up in June:
  

 ~  EKPTO's 2016 Prom is this Friday, June 3rd

 ~  After School Program extended hours begin June 9th,

12pm-6pm in Hawthorne, and 1pm-6pm at our Culver City site

 

 ~  Mychal's Garage Sale at our Hawthorne site on Saturday, June 18th

 ~  Move with Mychal's fitness event Saturday, June 25th

The M.I.L.E. (Mychal's Independent Living Experience) Program
MILE logo      
The MILE Program runs for 10 months (Sept - June) and is 2 Saturdays per month. MILE is available to  transition aged youth, 18-25 years old. It encourages and teaches independent life-skills as well as job training. The goal is to prepare students for life-long daily independent living and gainful employment.

We will have space for 10 students. Please contact us (info@mychals.org or 310-297-9333) if you're interested in having your child participate in the MILE Program starting in September. Intake meetings will take place in August.

         Mychal's Student Volunteers!
                                         At Love the City


Love the City is a thrift store offering new and lightly used products that range from kitchen appliances, furniture, electronics and a wide variety of clothing. It also offers donations to the homeless, a percentage of profit to local schools, and both vocational training and computer education. Love the City is also a non-profit outreach that provides ministry and service to the community. 
 
After recently shopping at Love the City, the Mychal's Culver City staff decided to come together. This helps Love the City bring the community together by offering vocational training to the students of Mychal's Learning Place.
 
Each week Mychal's students volunteer at the store sorting, organizing, labeling and arranging the donated items to be sold while greeting and 
interacting with the customers.
 
The hands-on training provides our students with great retail experience. It also developments and enhances skills such as communication; teamwork and leadership, which are among the goals of student volunteers.

Howl at the Moon Café 
 
Howl at the Moon Café is available to hire for private catering or as a vendor at community events. We offer specialty coffee service and homemade baked goods. Keep Howl at the Moon Café in mind for your next office meeting or event!

Mychal's is hosting a Garage Sale fundraiser in support of our student programs! Howl at the Moon Café will also be on hand selling delicious homemade cookies and fresh drip coffee. If you have any items you would like to donate, we are accepting the following items:
  • Clothing (childrens, womens, mens, please no undergarments)
  • Shoes
  • Kitchen appliances (pots, pans, silverware, please no stoves or refrigerators)
  • Electronics (TV's gaming systems, ect.)
  • Instruments (keyboards, drum sets, guitars)

We ask that all items be in good and working condition. Please inform a Mychal's staff member or contact us at 310-297-9333 to let us know if you wish to donate.  Item drop off will be at Mychal's Learning Place, 4901 W. Rosecrans Ave., Hawthorne on Friday, June 17th between 2 - 6 pm. Thanks for your support!

All proceeds benefit the students of Mychal's Learning Place.

Informed Educational Partners (IEP)
 

This group will informally address the questions and concerns that families have about their child's Special Education services and support and more.  All are welcome and you do not have to be a WRC client to attend.  Child care is available - families must RSVP by the day before the group.

Epilepsy Foundation Presents
Epilepsy/Seizure Recognition  
& First Aid Training at
Mychal's Learning Place
Wednesday, June 8th at 6:30pm
 
Do you know what to do if you see someone have a seizure? This training will provide an overview about epilepsy, how to recognize seizures and will help you be prepared to respond to seizures safely and appropriately.
