We're already into February! Not only is it the shortest month of the year, but 2016 is also a Leap Year! Leap Day is February 29th.  

There's lots going on here at Mychal's Learning Place, so please be sure to mark your calendars!

~ Saturday Classes will begin on February 6th, and run through April 9th. 

~ We will be having a Valentine's Day Dance on Saturday, February 13th from 6:30-9:30pm. Come and enjoy an evening of food (potluck), refreshments, and dancing. Suggested donation $5. Friends and families are welcome!

~ Mychal's Howl at the Moon Café Valentine's cupcakes and cookies are currently on sale. Give your Valentine a special treat and order today!

Howl at the Moon Café
 
Mychal's Howl at the Moon Café is in full swing, selling delicious hot and cold beverages and pastries. Howl at the Moon Café is dedicated to assisting individuals with developmental disabilities to build self-esteem and independence. Come on out to the Torrance Farmer's Market on February 9th & 27th. We hope to see you there!

                   Yuki

Yuki is 16 years old and currently attends Mychal's after school program in Culver City. He is a high school sophomore student. Some of Yuki's favorite activities at Mychal's include going to the YMCA to workout, music, and art. During art class, he enjoys using a variety of colors to really brighten up his artwork. The activity he enjoys the most while at Mychal's is baking. He loves cookies! His favorite part of the cookie making process is adding the chocolate chips into the dough. During his free time, he enjoys eating sushi with his brother and dad.
In the 8 months Yuki has been with Mychal's, not only has he shown growth in his independence, but he has become more social and interactive among his peers---way to go Yuki!

Mychal's Independent Living Experience is 2 Saturdays per month and runs for 10 months (Sept - June) for students ages 18-25, and teaches life skills necessary to live independent, productive and meaningful lives.  
The current session is full. If you're interested in the next session, which will start in September 2016, please contact us.

Mychal's After School...

Our after school programs are packed with activities for our students. It was a typical busy Thursday at our Hawthorne site as students used their creative talents to come up with some great art work ideas. They also made time to cook up some ground turkey tostadas, and finished out the day with a good workout with Healthy Giving...awesome work everyone!

   
   




Adopt & Shop in Culver City is a nonprofit pet retailer in  that offers pet adoption, daycare, grooming, dog training, and other pet products. Our Culver City students volunteer on a weekly basis to assist with maintaining the store, organizing product, and dog walking. Our students gain real world, hands-on experience while directly contributing to saving and enriching the lives of pets.  Beginning this month Adopt & Shop will be selling Mychal's Kitty Perches!
