Mychal's New Van
With the help of so many generous people, we managed to raise enough money at the Luncheon to purchase a NEW VAN! It's a 15-passenger 2012 Ford van. With the growth of Mychal's programs and providing services to so many students, we had a major need for an additional van. At our Luncheon (this past May), we added a new "fund-a-need" portion to our live auction... the crowd was very enthusiastic and donations, large and small, came pouring in to help us "Build-a-Van"!! We are so grateful to all who helped with this big endeavor.
THANK YOU TO ALL OF THE PEOPLE WHO DONATED TOWARDS OUR VAN!

Shine - a Music Empowerment Program
"Shine" is a Music Empowerment Program to "unleash the undiscovered gifted", to find young people aged between 12-20 years old who have an extraordinary gift in Music, but have something in their way in expressing their gift, such as special needs, physical illness, lack of confidence, or disadvantaged background. Through a 3 month program of personal and performance coaching, each participant goes on a journey of self discovery in their self worth and value in society through their music, their voice, culminating in "Shine" a musical show. In "Shine", the participants truly own the show from beginning to end, which includes writing the links and theme of the show. The participants choose their own audience - of everyone they've ever wanted to shine in front of. Along their journey, they will get a chance to perform on radio, children's hospices and in community projects, so they get to present the difference they make to others by sharing their gift in music.
"Shine" was launched in the UK by Dian Buckley, who is a Singer/Songwriter (operatically trained) with 15 years professional experience in the music industry, has performed and written all over the world and has also been a Performing Arts Teaching Specialist in Autism/Aspergers for the last 7 years. After her own personal struggles with confidence and loss in her life, Dian wanted to combine her love of music and people, and "Shine" was born in 2010. "Shine" is a worldwide project.
In the UK, "Shine" was performed in both London and Brighton, and was a beautiful success, as Laura Hobson, a 15 year old participant in "Shine" said, "This has changed my life, I now know I can do anything I want to do".
"Shine" will be launching in September 2013, and will be held at Mychal's Learning Place. If you want to be part of something that will make a massive difference in your child/young adult's life forever and that's going to rock the whole world, please email Dian Buckley enquiries@dianbuckley.com or for further information about Dian Buckley and Shine, go to the website - www.dianbuckley.com . Please note that this is not a Mychal's program. It will be held at our location, but you must contact Dian for information.
