Finding the Heart in the Harvest: Looking to our Needs Ahead
By Laura Schnitzlein
September marks my one-year anniversary working with The American Chestnut Foundation. Within this year, my passion for the American chestnut has grown exponentially and I attribute that to several things - a love of my home in Appalachia, a love of the history and forests in our region, and a love of this individual tree. It has been such a pleasure getting to know all of TACF's "chestnut friends," who are without a doubt the kindest, hardest working people out there!  It continues to be a privilege for me to work alongside you in restoring this "Mighty Giant".  Read more
T-shirts Honoring Meadowview's 25th Anniversary

In celebration of Meadowview Research Farm's 25th Anniversary, the Southwest Virginia Restoration Branch, who is hosting the event, has also designed festive t-shirts for everyone interested in celebrating the festive occasion. The event honors all who have participated in the development and success of the Farm's breeding program over the past 25 years. The T-shirts will be available at the celebration event ($10) or can be ordered from the SWVA branch (add $2 for shipping, $1 for a front pocket, $1.50 for xx and $2.50 for xxx sizes).  Read more.

 West Virginia Chestnut Festival

In honor of the heritage of our Great American Chestnut Tree, the West Virginia Chestnut Festival will be hosted in Rowlesburg, WV, the little town on the big bend of the scenic Cheat River! Dedications will also be made to recognize the research scientists and their ongoing efforts, dedicated to restoring American Chestnut Trees- a giant hardwood tree that once dominated the hills of Appalachia. It will be chestnut dishes and activities galore with a Gala Chestnut dinner rounding out this Chestnut-crazed day! For more information, visit: http://www.wvchestnutfestival.com/Home.html.
