 This Saturday September 20 12:00 - 3:00
CUSTOMER APPRECIATION BBQ
This Saturday - rain or shine - the grill will be hot by noon, and we will serve until 3, or, until the burgers run out. Be sure to save the date - this is the most popular event of the year - we hope you can attend.
We will once again be grilling THUNDER VIEW FARMS hamburgers - the best black angus burger you'll ever have from beef raised right next door in Grahamsville. For our vegetarian and vegan friends we will also have veggie burgers as well. In addition, the market team will be making salads featuring organic vegetables from our friends at NEVERSINK FARM, and, apple crisp for dessert with apples from TRAPANI FARMS located in Milton, New York. And, Nick has once again volunteered to play bar tender with an offering of beers and wine. No party can really get started without some music. This year we are pleased to have our customer and friend EUGENE GLOVER for your entertainment and enjoyment. Eugene has agreed to bring his Caribbean steel drum and keyboards and will be banging out his versions of Salsa, Calypso, Reggae and a Cha-Cha or two. |

Recipe
SIMPLE APPLE CRISPFor a quick and easy fall treat, skip the hassle of baking pies and opt instead for a fruit crisp. The recipe could not be simpler:
INGREDIENTS
* 3 cups Apples, peeled, cored and sliced
* 1 cup Flour
* 1 cup Sugar
* 1/2 t cinnamon
* 1/4 t Salt
* 1/2 cup Butter
DIRECTIONS
1. Grease an 8 - 9" square baking pan and preheat oven to 375 degrees.
2. Add apples to pan.
3. Combine dry ingredients in a medium bowl, then "cut in" the butter using 2 knives until the mixture is crumbly.
4. Spread the crumbles evenly over the apples.
5. Bake until top is golden brown, about 40 minutes.
Enjoy!

"THE DIRT"
Garden Tip of the Week
The first day of fall is rapidly approaching. Here are a few garden tips to keep in mind this month: 1. Watch the weather reports! Plan to bring in any remaining warm season crops, such as tomatoes, peppers, melons and so on, before the first frost arrives. 2. When removing old plants from beds, avoid composting any that show signs of diseases or fungus. Also, never compost weeds that have gone to seed...unless you are looking forward to weeding next year! 3. Save your herb plants - most can be potted up and grown indoors in a sunny location over winter. 4. Look to the future - fall is a great time to plant trees & shrubs, not to mention spring-flowering bulbs. |
