Good Food.  Great Gardens.  Neighbors First.     September 11, 2014
September is

CUSTOMER APPRECIATION MONTH

We would like to thank you for the great summer we've had here at the market and can think of no better way than to make the month of September Customer Appreciation Month.

CUSTOMER APPRECIATION BAR-B-Q

Scheduled for Saturday September 20th - rain or shine - the grill will be hot by noon, and we will serve until 3, or, until the burgers run out.  Be sure to save the date - this is the most popular event of the year - we hope you can attend.

We will once again be grilling THUNDER VIEW FARMS hamburgers - the best black angus burger you'll ever have from beef raised right next door in Grahamsville.  For our vegetarian and vegan friends we will also have veggie burgers as well.

In addition, the market team will be making salads featuring organic vegetables from our friends at NEVERSINK FARM, and, apple crisp for dessert with apples from TRAPANI FARMS located in Milton, New York.  And, Nick has once again volunteered to play bar tender with an offering of beers and wine.

No party can really get started without some music.  This year we are pleased to have our customer and friend EUGENE GLOVER for your entertainment and enjoyment.  Eugene has agreed to bring his Caribbean steel drum and keyboards and will be banging out his versions of Salsa, Calypso, Reggae and a Cha-Cha or two.

In addition, through the end of the month, we are happy to offer these special promotions:

FALL TREATS !

FOODIES' CORNER

Coffee Cup

FILLERS IN COFFEE?
What next?

If you are a coffee drinker, you've undoubtedly watched with dismay over the years as the "1-lb" can of coffee has shrunk to the point where it is now only about 11 oz. in most cases.

To add insult to injury, some coffee producers are now padding their profits by adding fillers to ground coffee to stretch the product even further- soybeans, brown sugar and corn just to name a few.

Fortunately there is an alternative:  Java Love locally roasted beans available here at the market.  Buy what you need and grind it yourself (or have us do it for you).  Not only will you get a fresher cup of coffee, but you will know exactly what's inside.

"THE DIRT"
Garden Tip of the Week

QUEEN ANNE'S LACE

This ubiquitous "weed" proliferates in our area this time of year.  Originally from Afghanistan, it is actually a member of the parsley family and is related to dill and cilantro.

Since it can grow in almost any soil, we see it everywhere here in the country - ditches, fields, yards, you name it.  But, since it makes a nice addition to wildflower bouquets, did you know it can be found for sale in NYC for $3 a bunch?!

For any of you entrepreneurs out there thinking about capitalizing on New York's, um, "weed" market - act fast!  Once summer is gone so too is this pretty late-summer flower.
