ONTARIO, Calif. - June 3, 2015 -- In response to Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti announcing the nomination of Deborah Ale Flint, director of Oakland International Airport, as the next executive director of Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA), Alan D. Wapner, Ontario Mayor pro Tem and President of the Ontario International Airport Authority, issued this statement:
"We congratulate Mayor Garcetti on his selection of Deborah Ale Flint to head his Department of Airports. Coming from a Bay Area airport that successfully operates within the San Francisco regional airport system, we are confident she understands that local control is the only way to avoid an inherent conflict of interest between a primary international gateway and a secondary airport. Upon the transfer of ONT to the Ontario International Airport Authority, Ms. Ale Flint can focus her full attention on the two airports within the City of Los Angeles - LAX and Van Nuys Airport. Congratulations to Ms. Ale Flint, and we look forward to meeting with her and Mayor Garcetti soon to transfer ONT to local control."
