January/February 2015
Greetings!

Winter Break is over and the school year is back into action, which can only mean one thing... So is the Vancouver ken! The Ma'apilim have been hard at work planning and organizing different events for chanichim of all ages. Additionally West Coast Seminar is coming up at the end of this month, as well as some information about the further away Spring Seminar, so make sure to check all of this cool stuff out in this month's newsletter!

As well, on behalf of Camp Miriam, we would like to say that we hope everyone has a great Tu Bishvat!

Past Ken Events

Nitzanim/Amelim:
The Amelim had an event on January 25th, pre-Tu Bishvat themed. They played link tag, planted carrots and broccoli in soil in little jars, talked a little bit about what the holiday is and then painted the jars. Sounds like such a fun time!
Future Events

Nitzanim/Amelim: It will be Tu Bishvat themed! Come prepared for fun times and educational games that will talk about trees, the environment, what Tu Bishvat is and how fun it is to celebrate it. Only come if you like to have a good time with friends! Recommended kupa (money to bring) is $5-10.

When: February 22nd, 2015

Time: 2:00pm - 4:00pm

Where: The Bayit - 405 East King Edward

Shomrim/Tzofim: Come join a beautiful hike at Lynn Canyon with your friends and your Madrichim! The sights will be amazing, the chats will be inclusive, and the fun will be unimaginable. Please check out the flyer below for more information.

Time:
1:00pm - 4:00pm
Where:
The Bayit - 405 East King Edward

Havdallah

On January 24th, new families, alumni, currently involved families, Ma'apilim and the camp committee all gathered for a calming Camp Miriam style Havdallah event. Havdallah isone of the warmest memories for most when they think back to their favourite camp on Gabriola Island. It was such a fun time filled with joy, love and support from all around. Many learned new things about Camp Miriam and what we're all about, and many played games and had an extraordinarily fun time! See you next year for Havdallah 2016!

Workshop Corner!

Don't forget about our beloved friends and family in Israel for the year! Workshop 64 is almost half-way finished and the participants are having such an amazing time. The first two sections have finished, an educational program on Kibbutz and a more choose-your-own-adventure program in multiple different places, and now they are living in a new house in Rishon LeZion. "Our house is beautiful," Mia Goodman says, "and so are all the people in it!" In Rishon they are currently volunteering with Jewish, Arab, Russian, Ethiopian, privileged, under-privileged children of all different ages and from all different backgrounds. I'm sure they're having an amazing time and are feeling extremely fulfilled by this invigorating experience!
Tu Bishvat Shabbat

On Friday, Febuary 6th, from 5:00-7:30pm, there will be a Tu Bishvat Shabbat Dinner. We would like to welcome all chanichim (campers) to the Zetler's house at 1807 Dunbar St. Our last potluck shabbat dinner was such a blast, and this one could only turn out better! Please try to incorporate different fruits and/or dried fruits to correspond with the Tu Bishvat theme. As well all food should be parve or dairy.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Yossi Argov at yossi.argov@gmail.com. See you there!

Solar Kenergy Takes Over The Post!

A large majority of our chanichim are from Portland. Solar Kenergy (the Portland ken) is also incredibly active. They recently had an amazing peula that talked about privilege. An amazing new tradition that they've started is creating a relationship with foreign kenim, to try and create bonds between chanichim that are distanced from each other. They've been writing letters to pen pals (aka KEN pal) with the ken in Chicago.
