Past Ken Events
Sayarim/Chotrim: On October 12th the Sayarim and Chotrim had a Sukkot-themed ken event at the Bayit. After having fun learning about Sukkot, they built and decorated a massive indoor sukkah, made of furniture! They also built mini sukkot from fries, marshmallows, and toothpicks. Sounds like a delicious time!
Shomrim/Tzofim: The Shomrim and Tzofim had quite the adventurous event this October. Their madrichim surprised them with a fun activity. The madrichim deep-fried all different kinds of food and the chanichim had to guess what the food was!
Bonim: The Bonim went to a super cool MVA (Metro Vancouver Alliance) Municipal Election Accountability Assembly on October 9th. Before they went, they had a discussion to get them thinking about political action, democracy, as well as people's involvement in politics in Canada and worldwide.
Post-Mbi: The Nachshonim rolled into the Bayit Sunday for a peula about how they can affect their own experience in the Ken. Not only was the discussion filled with interesting viewpoints and opinions, but also...CANDY! A good time in the Ken was had by all as the Nachshonim talked about how to move forward as a kvutsa this year in the Ken.

Ken Vancouver Furthers its Alliance with the 'MVA'!
This past October, Ma'aplim and Chanichim attended a very crucial Metro Vancouver Alliance (MVA) assembly. Essentially, the MVA let our concerns be known to mayoral candidates, so that after the election, we can hold them accountable for their promises, through the use of our people power. Camp Miriam has been trying to gain an "alliance" and work with the MVA quite a bit recently, and will continue to do so. A great number of Madrichim and Chanichim who went to this assembly are additionally putting forth a good name and reputation of Camp Miriam.

Who Doesn't Love A Shabbat Potluck Dinner?!
One of the most special times during machane is Shabbat, and we were lucky enough to be able to recreate it in the city this past October. Chanichim of all ages came together to bring in Shabbat and enjoy each other's company. We kept it true to a Shabbat at machaneh, we walked to 'the point' and heard a great Dvar Torah, sang Hachama Merosh, had an amazing potluck (thanks to everyone for bringing food), and ended the night with a ruach (spirit) filled Shabbat shira (Shabbat singing). Shabbat is a special time at machaneh, and was a special time in the ken! (Written by the lovely Raphael Tischler)

Not-So-Little Ken On The Prairie
Recently, the little ken held a fun and festive event! Together, we went on a scavenger hunt to find clues about what we will do next and discovered pumpkins needing to be carved. As well, we talked a little bit about the effects that suburbs have on the environment. Check out some of the awesome pumpkins we made! The Little Ken on the Prairie (aka Ken Calgary) has events about once a month with chanichim from Calgary and surrounding areas. We run various types such as tie dye t-shirt making, tiyulim, puelot, and more!

Solar Kenergy Energizes Up Portland!
Our friends over in the greater Portland area have also been super active with their ken, Solar Kenergy. They recently ran a Sukkot event that involved different activities they could choose to go to and building their very own sukkah! They also talked about homelessness in their different communities. All in all it was an educational and fun time! Marina Levy says, "Our Sukkot event was great! The ken has just been so wonderful and empowering for the people who are running it and all the chanichim attending!" Their next event will be on November 22nd, and they'll be doing a Tikkun Olam project that works to combat the homelessness they talked about in their last event. Good luck and much love to Solar Kenergy!

Island Life Starts Up Again
Meanwhile, over on Vancouver Island, the Sharpe sisters (Sara & Amanda) ran the first Victoria ken event of the year on October 19th. It was hosted by our very own registrar, Leah Levi.
It was Hallowe'en themed and, apparently, a total hit! Kids
showed up in a variety of costumes, all very impressive, and they ate candy, watched movies and played games. In total, 13 kids came and they "would love for there to be more of these!" (a quote from many in passing). You started it off with a bang, lets wish the Sharpe sisters luck and hope that the Victoria ken stays as active as it is now. Seems like it definitely will!
