News from the Ken
March 2014
Greetings!
March is here and Purim is just around the corner! During February the Ken kept busy with all sorts of fun events and we want to share them with you. We built forts, applied for Mbi, had a yummy shabbat potluck dinner, watched Toy Story and made ice-cream Sundays. Hope you enjoy our newsletter and thank you for all your support!

Bonim LOVE Paperwork!
This month, the bonim gathered at the bayit to work together on their MBI applications. They helped each other with the mountains of papers they had to fill out and pumped themselves up for their up coming summer in Israel! After they finished as much as they could, they joined the nitzanim and amelim for ice-cream sundays!
Shabbat Potluck Dinner 2.0

On a cold Friday night in Vancouver we attempted to replicate some of our beloved machaneh Shabbat traditions. Chanichim and madrichim brought tasty dishes and engaged in some Friday night fun: The first part of the evening started with a short walk around the neighborhood (or the "point"), which was followed by a short mishbacha-style check-in, leading into a wonderful "Rosh story" based on the parshat ha-shavuah, and finally ending in singing and kabbalat shabbat. After a potluck dinner, which consisted of great food and lots of laughter, we danced our legs off doing rikkud and sang our hearts out with kumzitz. We met some fresh faces as chanichim brought their friends to join in on the festivities. Everyone had lots of fun and left being super excited about the upcoming summer!" Thanks to those that came out, hopefully your bellies were as full as ours were!

Toy Story Meets the Ken!
The Nitzanim and Amelim had the Sunday of sundaes last weekend. The event began with the classic favourite, ninja. Afterwards everyone made their own ice cream sundaes before sitting down and kicking back with popcorn and ice cream to watch the projection of the original Toy Story. After the movie everybody made shadow puppets and played games until parents came for pick up. A great time was had by all the Amelim and Nitzanim after spending an awesome afternoon with their kvutzah and madrichim.

So You Think You Can Build?
Shomrim and Tzofim gathered at the bayit and built an epic fort! Once they got inside, they sat next to the fireplace, drank hot cocoa and watched favourite morning cartoons. They had a cozy afternoon catching up with how they were all doing and shared lots of laughs!
What's Up Calgary Ken?!
The other weekend our shaliach, Yossi, hopped on a plane to visit the Little ken on the Prairie (Ken Calgary) for a ken seminar shabbaton (COOL!!). All the kids and families got together for a Shabbat dinner - Camp Miriam-style! They chatted, ate challah, and had fun games to play. The next day, Yossi and others ran more activities for the kids and for possible future campers at a nearby synagogue! Everyone had a great time and really appreciated Yossi's visit.
