Greetings!
October leaves are falling and the November morning frost is slowly making itself at home. October has been an incredible month filled with tons of kvutzah and eizor-wide ken events that we want to share with you! For example, read about our potluck Shabbat dinner and our first Fall Seminar IN Vancouver. Stay tuned for our activities during November and thank you for your support.
Enjoy reading and we wish you all Happy Hanukkah!

So, You Think You Can Build a Sukkah?
During the month of October, the Amelim and Nitzanim learned all about the Jewish holidays of Rosh Hashanah, Yom Kippur, Sukkot, Shemini Atzeret, and Simchat Torah. They also become acquainted with the new 61 Bayit (house) through a scavenger hunt! The hunt involved fan favorites such as dipping apples in all sorts of yummy dipping, and ate tasty treats after building the best sukkah-fort the ken has ever seen! This month we had a big turn-up of Amelim and Nitzanim in the Ken- way to go chaverim!

Sayarim and Chotrim Love Science!
During the month of October, the Sayarim and Chotrim participated in a science camp!
First we hypothesized the best way to build a tall structure with only using tooth picks and marshmallows to build different structures
RESULT: We found that triangles and squares worked the best when trying to build bigger things.
Next everyone was given a raw egg and had to build a contraption that would prevent the egg from breaking when dropped from a certain height. RESULT: Everyone created a different design to protect their raw egg and in the end almost all of the eggs survived, who knew science could be so fun!!!

Shomrim and Tzofim, the Finalists in Iron-Kef
On a Sunday afternoon, Shomrim and Tzofim came over to the Bayit and had a Iron-Kef cooking battle! There were two teams of chanchim who cooked against the one and only Shaliach, Yossi Argov. Each team got points for food quality, style and presentation.

Bonim ROCK!
The Bonim event this month went very well! Hanging out in a Teepee is the best way to start a ken event and re-enter Kvutzah mode. After cookies and questions, we headed out to the park to play a giant game of camouflage and talked about what Kvutzah means in the movement outside of Vancouver! Also, a big shout out to everyone who visited from afar! Afterwards, the Bonim went off to participate in a scavenger hunt planned by Julia's Mom that led them all around the city. What a great day!

Fall Seminar... in Vancouver?!
What an incredible weekend! Although we didn't get to go to beautiful Gabriola, it was super exciting to have more chanichim able to make it down from Seattle. Everyone arrived early afternoon on Friday which provided us with plenty of time to have our first Fall Seminar Shabbat dinner! We did Kabbalat Shabbat, ate a delicious meal of matza-ball soup, challa, lasagnia, salad and cookies for dessert. We sang songs and had rikud too! On Saturday morning, everyone woke up to fresh-home-made cinnamon buns (baked by Phil Engel - thank you!) and played tons of gaga. We had Chug Aelf and Bet and other shabbat traditions that we do at machaneh. Thank you everyone for coming - we can't wait for Spring Seminar!

The 9th Challa: A Tale from a Potluck Shabbat Dinner
This month we had a potluck Shabbat dinner just for chanichim ages chotrim and up. After a huge turn out of 30 chanichim, we began kabbalat shabbat and blessed each of the 9 challot that were brought to the Bayit. The array of a variety of delicious dishes was a beautiful sight and everyone got plenty to satisfy their tummies! After dinner we played games, got to know everyone and talked about our week. For some chanichim, this was their first shabbat experience - we were so glad to have made it special for them. It was really wonderful to see everyone (from a range of different ages) engage and spend time with one another.
