News from the Ken
September 2013
Greetings!

We're back from Gabriola and ready for the new year! It's been an incredibly fun, magical and exciting summer at Machaneh Miriam. After our adventurous tiyulim (outdoor trips) in the Juan de Fuca and Elk River, crazy-coloured rikud on the migrash, vibrant Gabriola sunsets during Havdalla, a Harry Potter themed Yom Meyuchad, kayaking and canoeing to twin beaches and creative chugim, we feel... AWESOME!

In addition to the enthusiasm glowing from our chanichim and madrichim from a very successful summer, we still have energy and are channeling it into the ken of 2013 / 2014. With that, we would like to wish you all a very sweet, sweet year full of health, happiness and peace.
Thank you for your support and enjoy reading the upcoming newsletters of the new year!

Workshop 63 Sets Sail for Israel

As we welcome back ma'apilim from workshop 62, we send off kvutzat 63 from Miriam: Celia Robinovitch, Matan Reshef, Eli Kaplan, Asher Zetler, Michael Eidelson, Rachel Fishman, Jacob Henderson, Hannah Faber, Jacob Faber, Hannah Martens, Sara Sharpe and Sam Koppel - all of which worked at Miriam this summer!

We're very excited to have such a large group attend workshop from Miriam and we wish them a sweet good year in all their adventures!

The Tale of Two Batim (In One City)

Vancouver Ma'apilim have now established two Batim! (Bayit means house in hebrew, batim is plural). The 61 Bayit is on Granville and Devonshire and the 59 Bayit is on Prince Edward and 25th. These Ma'apilim live together communally; both our homes are filled with love and friendship and also exist as a communal space for the ken.

Shalich! Shaliach! Shaliach! Ah Ya Ya Yie...

This week we said farewell to our shaliach Yotam, who was in Vancouver for the past year. It was very difficult to say goodbye as he was such an important part of the ken and machaneh and always had the biggest smile. We will miss him very much and wish him the best in everything he does!

However, as Yotam leaves we welcome our new shaliach, Yossi Argov! He lives in a small moshav next to Jerusalem, Nes Harim and grew up in the youth movement Bnei' Ha Moshavim. He's very excited to be in Vancouver and looks forward to spending time with everyone in the upcoming year. He wishes everyone a sweet shana tova!

How You Can Make a Diference for a Child
What does camp mean to you?

Making a difference in Jewish children's lives, Camp Miriam provides great Jewish experiences and identity and value-based education for campers. By supporting the Camp Miriam Campership Fund or the Alisa Bowman Leadership Fund you can help more Jewish children benefit from this unique experience.
