One Moment at a Time

What does it take for a Navajo woman, steeped in traditions of native religion and spirits, to break away from her bondage? Bessie Betoney, from the Red Lake Reservation in New Mexico, asserts that the Lord understood she would need to be convinced that He alone is the true God.
Her children had been going to church for about a month; that day she "found she had nothing to do," so she went with them. The truth of God's plan for salvation pierced her heart, and she responded to the invitation. As she walked down the aisle to say "yes" to Jesus, Bessie became unaware of her earthly surroundings. The bench at the altar faded and she saw a glittering gate. Beautiful singing in her native tongue accompanied a bright space of incredible beauty. She sensed angels escorting her to the altar, and felt the arms of God embrace His new daughter, snatching her away from the enemy. Bessie was confident of Who had saved her from sin and the enemy's power.
This assurance was crucial as she and her husband Arnold became involved in ministry. ( continue)

 | Prayer Watch |
| | |

Bessie Betoney has sent requests for us to present to God's Throne:
- Wisdom as they deal with their daughter's illness.
- Their family: Ardeen, Aaron, Audrey and her son Benjamin, Josh, Rachel, and a nephew, Ezan. Pray for spiritual and physical strength as they work, provide for Audrey and help their children with school. Pray for grandson Benjamin as he competes as an exceptionally gifted runner.
- Pray for Bessie's ministry to many women in distress-some of their own making. They need to know the truth of God's word and how to live in its freeing power. Bessie wants to model Christ in her marriage.
- Pray for Arnold as he builds the counseling ministry.
- Pray for another Betoney vehicle. They need one to allow them to travel more efficiently, leaving a car to care for Audrey and other local needs.

 | Pumpkin Anyone? with Pat Ashcraft |
| |
|
Pumpkin cookies, pumpkin pie, pumpkin bread, pumpkin spice latte, and the list goes on and on. It's that time of year when all things become pumpkin flavored. And it is the time of year that I love, Autumn! The days are warm and the nights are cool. There is no more need for air conditioning and the windows are open for fresh air. If it were up to me, we would have autumn all year round. Yes, that would be one of my goals. Although, I don't think I am going to get my way on that.
Another one of my goals would be to have faithful donors who would make it possible for Women of Grace USA to meet their $3,500 per month goal in donations. We are about one-third of the way there, for which we are so very thankful. Women are stepping up and committing to support this ministry on a monthly basis through our Trellis program. And I am trusting that God will supply the remaining need that we have. Are you one of the women that He is urging to be a part of our Trellis? If so, contact us to sign up. Oh, got to go. I think the pumpkin pie is ready to come out of the oven.

Confessions of an Imperfect Mom
by Liz Sprankle
I have a confession to make: I do not like sewing with my daughters. I get irritated. I get snippy. I get frustrated. I give up.
I hang out regularly with a group of moms in my neighborhood. Several of them love to do sewing projects with their kids. They talk about little projects they do together and how their kids love to sit and embroider in the evenings. I find myself feeling like an inferior mom because I can't sew with my girls. Know the feeling? Truth is I'm kind of jealous. I wish I could be "that mom," but there are times I have to step back, look at myself and say, "As much as I wish it was, that is not me".
If I'm honest, I have a long list of "that is not me's." continue reading

 | An Invitation to Stand Firm |
| | |
Standing firm is easy until your ground shakes. The current issue of Women's Spectrum magazine invites us into the worlds of individuals who have discovered what it means to Stand Firm in the faith. Be encouraged as they share the truths of what it means to stand firm in Jesus even when the world around them is uneasy. Hear the stories of missionaries who have made it their calling to speak up even when it gets difficult, and explore how you can stand with them from your own situation. As you read the stories, you will rejoice at the reminder that we were never meant to stand firm alone. Click here to find out how to order your copy of the Women's Spectrum.

The world around us is changing, and our awareness of the challenges to stand firm as believers in Christ is increasing. This year at Women of Grace USA we will be exploring the call to "Stand Firm." A Bible study to help guide us in this theme is available for download as a pdf that can be printed and distributed to your study groups. The twelve-lesson study, appropriately titled "Stand Firm," will leave you with a triumphant perspective on the dynamics of standing firm in all circumstances. Click here to order.
