Facilitating global impact

Greetings!

God loves to surprise us, to go beyond our expectations. Sometimes the results are truly amazing. Rejoice with us in the many ways He is showing that truth to women around us.

Glory in the Rubble

By Viki Rife

Emmanuella Alexis was sitting in her classroom when the earthquake hit. She had just prayed, "Lord, no one loves me like you do. I want to serve you with my life. Show me your glory." At that moment, the ground started shaking and she saw her fellow students scrambling to get out. She sat still, amazed at how God had chosen to answer her prayer.

Suddenly, she felt that a voice inside her was saying, "Emmanuella, get up." She stood up, and as she started to move away from her chair, the wall collapsed onto it. She had narrowly escaped serious injury.

But that was not the end of it. The 7.0 earthquake that struck her home city of Port-au-Prince, Haiti on January 12, 2010, left destruction and confusion. Not only did the School of Theology she was attending collapse, but the home where she lived with her mother was also destroyed. There was no place to go in the midst of the catastrophe that killed over 100,000 people. (continue)

Team Emmanuella

This summer Dr. Christy Hill is offering a week of intensive training for 12 hand-picked women to start teaching the Women's Leadership Studies classes in order to meet the demand. Four of the women taking the class also speak Spanish, so it provides the possibility of offering the classes in that language. But what can we do for our sisters who speak Creole?

Emmanuella Alexis would be the ideal person to do that, but with her internship in Florida, she will need to purchase air fare to return to Indiana for that week. Women of Grace has established a fund for those who would like to help with her travel to this important class, as well as some of the medical bills she incurred last fall from her hip replacement. We invite you to join "Team Emmanuella" by supporting this sister with your prayers and finances this summer.

A Diamond-studded Invitation

This year Women of Grace celebrates 75 years of ministry-and YOU are invited to the party!  Join us for a festive diamond-themed party at Fellowshift Conference in Washington, D.C. on Friday, July 18th at 2:30 PM as we celebrate all that the Lord has done through women of grace like you! We'll remember highlights of the past and share about the exciting direction that Women of Grace USA is headed and how you can help!  There will be a brief corporation meeting as well as fun and meaningful activities for a chance to get acquainted with other women in the Fellowship while sharing what God is doing among us! And don't forget to grab your copy of the latest Spectrum Magazine!

We also encourage you to attend a workshop that morning at 11:15 on Daring to Hope, a study of the book of Jeremiah by Melissa Spoelstra, one of our Women's Spectrum editors.

A Message from FGBC Coordinator Tom Avey

Wondering about "The Identity Initiative"? This past year a conversation began to write a fresh answer to the question "What is a Grace Brethren?" Focus retreats in the fall of 2013 through Spring 2014 focused on our shared values and introduced a process that will bring leaders from all the nations with Grace Brethren fellowships into this discussion. More than 300 leaders participated! You can still jump into the early stages of the conversation as Dave Guiles shares a summary of this important project during Vision Conference 2014, on Sunday, July 20 at 2:00 PM. We need women's perspectives in this important discussion.  For some background, visit here.

No Surprise

After the Women's Leadership Class, "Equipping Women for Ministry" under Dr. Christy Hill's instruction, it was great fun to practice identifying the personality types on my unsuspecting sisters in my church family. As I watched my sisters more closely, sure enough, the tell-tale signs of their personality types surfaced: the drivers, relationals, analyticals and amiables.

Be comforted when you think of that woman who drives you up the wall. God knows you need her and she needs you. There will be those who cause conflicts, and, wonder of all wonders, you may cause a few yourself, irritating the life out of another sister. But we have the oil of the Holy Spirit to do His work in unity.

As you watch the women God has placed with you in ministry, pray Romans 15:5-6: "May the God of endurance and encouragement give you a spirit of unity among yourselves as you follow Christ Jesus so that with one heart and mouth you may glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ."

Remember, Thursday's weekly Prayer Post on the Women of Grace Facebook page is an opportunity to pray in unity for God's next step for us as Women of Grace. Blessings to you as you pray!

Amazing Friendships

by Jen Fretz

As the school year starts to come to a close, so do some of the 'mom's groups' that I'm in.  Luckily, our summers are always fast-paced, so I don't have to wait long to start meeting up again with these special fellow-mom friends! I have been fondly thinking of some of these women lately and what they mean to me. It's so neat to think of and know the ways that God has placed them in my life and the special times that I have had with them over coffee, shopping, crafting...whatever! There have been many times that I have strongly depended on one of them to come alongside me, depending on our relationship, even over a family member when I was going through a difficult time. My girlfriends are so very special to me, and I can't imagine them not being in my life. I can't imagine not being able to pick up the phone, no matter what time of day, and be able to confide in someone I trust and look up to when I need them! I believe that no one (other than the Lord) quite knows my heart like some of my fellow-mom friends!

Surprisingly, I've heard numerous times from other women that they don't have friends.

Chase by Jennie Allen

Review by Christy Carmean

What are you chasing? We're all chasing after something, some thing that we think will make us happy - comfort, success, a bigger house, or someone's approval. But if we are all honest, it feels like trying to catch the wind. "A man after God's own heart."As David's life weaves throughout the pages of Scripture, we see he was a man who spent his life chasing after God. Chase explores the events that define David's life and the Psalms that flowed out of those experiences. Through David's example we'll discover what God really wants from us. (more)
