Who Needs a House Inspection?

By Viki Rife

Our young friends were buying their first house. They were so excited they jumped up and down as they told us! After years of saving, they finally had their down payment. They had just found a nice older home on a quiet, shady street. The monthly payments were just a little more than they had planned for, but they decided they could cut costs in other areas. The sellers had already had it inspected, and although a number of experienced friends suggested they get their own inspector, they felt they could save money by foregoing the additional costs.

Eight months later, after they started having plumbing problems, they learned that the foundation was crumbling, caving in on their plumbing lines. The ground had shifted so that it no longer supported the foundation. They had a choice to make: demolish their landscaping and spend $8000 repairing their foundation, or try to sell a house that nobody would want. (read more)

Date Night? What's That?                          by Jennifer Fretz

If you are like me and most friends I talk to, date night seems like it's simply part of the good ol' days! I remember, before we had kids, Andy and I would go out regularly with or without friends! It was nothing for us to go to dinner and a movie, or hang out late at another couple's house and play board games, or take a night out on the town. It was nothing for us to spend money doing those things! Money or no money, date night is certainly, at least in this house, a thing of the past!

I can't really say when we stopped making date night a priority, but I do know that the introduction of little Fretzes has something to do with it!  Now it seems like all of our time is spent taking care of those little Fretzes, and they seem to suck up all our money as well!  (more)

from Sharon MacMillan

"To enable the church to stand against the schemes of the devil and his angels, God provides her with spiritual armor, equips her with the sword of the Spirit, and empowers her through prayer."

(The Three Princes by Tom Julien)

We come boldly to none other than God Almighty, who alone possesses power over all other "authorities." This power placed His beloved Son over all, seating us together with Him in the heavenlies. We have been given authority to pray for God's will to be done here on earth as it is in heaven.

As you pray in faith for God's perfect will, imagine Him intently leaning down from the heavenly places to hear and answer your request. Put on the provided armor, wield the sword of truth and pray!

Child of God, "Whatever you ask in My Name, I will do it." Period! End of discussion.

Anything: the Prayer that Unlocked My God and My Soul

Review by Christy Carmean

I don't know why I am continually amazed at the perfect timing of the books that God puts in my hands. Maybe I should stop being amazed...or maybe He continually likes showing Himself to be amazing. Either way, I highly encourage you to read a book (if not this one, read another one that seems to fall into your lap). God can speak to me in countless ways, but one of the ways He chose this month was through the book Anything by Jennie Allen.

Jennie is a mother of four, pastor's wife, and graduate of Dallas Theological Seminary. She has published two Bible Studies, Stuck and Chase. Anything is her first book, and she was awarded the 2013 New Author of the Year Christian Book Award for it.

Several years ago, a friend introduced Jennie to a blog written by a girl in Uganda by the name of Katie.  (read review)
