Beyond Fire Hoses & Road Signs

By Viki Rife & Jennifer Blair

The latest issue of Women's Spectrum includes an article on extroverts and introverts. It was edited for space reasons. The responses we received were more revealing than what could be summarized in the article, so we thought we'd make the background information available:

The whole thing started with a conversation in a local restaurant:

"I just don't understand people," one woman commented. "There are so many I wish I could get to know, but they don't seem interested in associating with me. Is something wrong with me?"

"Is it possible you're misinterpreting their responses?" her friend asked.

"What do you mean? Don't you know how difficult it is? I'm outgoing; not afraid to have fun. I'd like to be included in people's inner circles, but they don't seem to accept me. I feel lonely and left out."

"You do?" her friend responded. "I never would have guessed it." Reserved and quiet, she tried to verbalize her thoughts. "I always assumed extroverts didn't care what other people thought."

"Well, I feel like introverts hold back and don't seem very interested in relationships," the younger friend replied.

A light started to dawn for both of them. Could it be that the difficulties came from an inability to understand the differences between introverts and extroverts? Curious, the two friends decided to ask people they knew what they perceived about the differences between introverts and extroverts. Although this was by no means a formal survey, the responses they received were intriguing. (read more)

He Heals the Brokenhearted
by Jennifer Fretz

This past weekend we celebrated our son, Lewis's, second birthday! Through it all I was reminded of the gift he is to us, but, to be honest, I didn't feel this way before he was born.

Lewis came to us during our darkest time; right after our second daughter passed away. If you are unfamiliar with our story you can read all about our journey with our daughter, Olivia, on my blog: fretzfam.blogspot.com. Olivia was born with a medical condition that was not compatible with life and only lived for six days. I didn't know a heart could break so much. When I became pregnant again I badly wanted another girl. I was pretty unsettled when I found out during my 20-week ultrasound that it was a boy. (more)

PrayerWatch Partnership

from Sharon MacMillan

When the women's GO team to Argentina was passing a shrine to worship Gauchito Gil, a cowboy version of Robin Hood, a man approached them. "Isn't it wonderful that we have someone like this to pray to and take care of us?" he asked. Please pray against the spiritual darkness in Corrientes, Argentina, and for the missionary team there.
