And Then We Were Six |
|
|

|
By Randi Craigen (reprinted from Women's Spectrum 2013)
Eight years ago, we were a fun, happy family of four. We worked together well. We played together great. We laughed a lot. We had favorite traditions, favorite places to go and favorite things to do together. We were usually nice to each other ... and generally sorry when we weren't. We weren't perfect, but we were healthy, connected and committed-or so we thought. Then we became a fun, happy family of six. Soon, fun felt more like chaos and happy became stressed. We didn't work as well together, and when we played together it was harder to get along. We laughed less. We yelled more. What happened? Read article.

Sending Them into the World
by Jennifer Fretz
We eased in to the summer pretty well with Gwen's last day of preschool being a couple of weeks before all of the other schools let out. For a whole month now we have been enjoying all of the things that come along with summer vacation-swimming, cookouts, trips, weekends away, and just being lazy and trying to beat the heat.
Gwen starts kindergarten this next school year and she is very excited about it. We do various activities during the week to help with kindergarten readiness and have visited her school. Each time we drive past it we talk about her new school and how much fun she will have this next year. We talk about all of the friends she will make and the new teachers who will help her learn all sorts of new and wonderful things. We talk about riding the bus and the fact that our new little neighbor friend will be in school with her and will ride the bus too. We have all of the upcoming orientations and parent/teacher meetings on the calendar and we are making sure to not miss a single thing by this September. Yep, we are ready...except....I don't know if I'm completely ready....(more)

As God's women, we are His living stones for His own spiritual building. Jesus was set in place as the perfect Cornerstone so that God's work might be laid on a perfect foundation. What is His work for women in today's world? He wants women to take seriously the role of the older women teaching the younger women. As we celebrate the ministry of SMM in the lives of generations of young women we can look to God for a movement of older women throughout the world to serve the next generation of women. Remembering the story of Half the Sky by WuDunn and Kristof, there is no lack of opportunity for us to care for our younger sisters. They will take their place in His spiritual building as they observe living stones that are plumb with the Cornerstone. |

There are still a few spots available on the Women's GO team to Argentina this fall. A major qualification for the team is that you are able to speak English. Ask the Lord whether He wants to use you to help with this new church-planting effort in a little-reached area of the country. More
