Ed Carpenter Wins Back-to-Back Poles for this Weekend's Indy 500!

The 2014 Indianapolis 500 will be the 98th running of the "Greatest Spectacle in Racing." It has been held every year since the first race in 1911 except the war years of 1917-1918 and 1942-1945.  To date, Ilmor has powered 18 victors across the finish line.  This year, we're racing to capture #19.

At qualifying this past weekend, Ilmor and Chevy power returned to the top of the pylon at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway for the third consecutive season as Ed Carpenter in the No. 20 Fuzzy's Ultra Premium Vodka Chevrolet earned the Verizon P1 award, and the pole for the 98th running of the Indianapolis 500.

Carpenter was the only driver to break the 231 mph barrier on his four lap average. An average speed of 229.382 mph makes this the fastest field in Indy 500 history.

The Chevrolet powered driver made the most of the new qualifying format earning a maximum possible 42 championship points by being the fastest car on day one of qualifying and backing that up by earning the pole.

"What an effort and result for Ed Carpenter and the whole Ed Carpenter Racing organization, said Chris Berube, Chevrolet Racing Program Manager, Verizon IndyCar Series. "Back-to-back poles at the Indianapolis 500 is surely an elite group.  Ed certainly knows how to wheel his Chevy powered Dallara around the Brickyard, and his team's efforts to prepare a car to consistently run at that level are noteworthy.  All of us at Chevrolet are proud of this accomplishment by Ed and the whole Ed Carpenter Racing crew.  Now we shift our focus to winning the Indy 500 next Sunday."

Will Power, No. 12 Verizon Team Penske Chevrolet, will join his Gold Bowtie teammate Carpenter on the front row, rolling off third.  Power was one of only six drivers to surpass 230 mph on his 10 mile qualifying effort.  Power's Team Penske teammate Helio Castroneves, a three-time Indy 500 winner, will pilot his No. 3 Pennzoil Ultra Platinum Chevrolet from the fourth starting position inside of the second row when the green-flag waves next Sunday.

The race will take place this Sunday May 25, 2014, and will be broadcast live on ABC beginning at 11 a.m. (ET).  Additionally, the IndyCar website features the IMS Radio Network, which includes live timing and scoring, as well as more information about the 2014 IndyCar season:  www.indycar.com.

Ilmor-Scorpion Powered Teams Dominate at Cocoa Beach

From May 16-18, several Ilmor-Scorpion powered race teams took to the waters to race at Superboat International's 5th Annual Space Coast Super Boat Grand Prix in Cocoa Beach, Florida.  With rough seas measuring 3-4 feet average, exciting racing ensued, leaving our teams battered but victorious.

In the Superboat Extreme class, Ilmor-Scorpion powered "Instigator 22" easily took their second win of the season.  But the Superboat class proved more challenging, as Team "Stihl 13," featuring 750hp Ilmor-Scorpion engines in a 38' Skater, raced head-to-head with opponent "WHM Motorsports 5".   The thrilling contest ended in success for Team Stihl, landing them at the top of the podium.  The Ilmor-Scorpion powered MTI "Spirit of Qatar 20" took a solid third place finish.

The next Superboat International race is scheduled in Sarasota, July 3-6.  For detailed race results, team profiles, and upcoming events (including live streaming), visit www.superboat.com.

About Ilmor

Ilmor Engineering was founded in 1984 when engineers Mario Illien (IL) and Paul Morgan (MOR) reached out to Roger Penske with a plan to build a better engine for the IndyCar racing series. Since then, legendary drivers like Andretti, Unser, and Castroneves have all driven cars powered by Ilmor engines.  Ilmor now has over 270 IndyCar race wins, 18 Indianapolis 500 victories, 44 Formula 1 wins, and two Formula 1 World Championships.

Since 2003, Ilmor has applied its expertise to the marine industry, creating completely unique engines for high performance powerboats. These engines include the iconic Dodge Viper-based MV10-725, or the new MV8-570, the most powerful emissions-certified small-block gasoline production marine engine today. Ilmor has also expanded its competitive tradition into powerboat racing, winning seven World Championships in Powerboat racing since 2007.

The positive response to Ilmor's products and customer service has resulted in Ilmor becoming a major supplier of powerboat engines and drives to boat makers all over the world, paving the way for product expansion. In 2010, Ilmor launched a series of inboard GM-based V-8 engines, all manufactured in its state-of-the-art 50,000 square foot marine engine assembly and test facility in Mooresville, North Carolina, specifically committed to managing the long term growth of our marine products.

Ilmor still follows the same principles put in place by its founders: innovative solutions, precision engineering and manufacturing, high quality, reliable products, and unrivaled customer support.
