Ilmor Teams Prepare for the 2013 Venture Cup Offshore Prologue Race!
This Saturday, June 8, marks the beginning of the 2013 Venture Cup Offshore Prologue Race in the UK. Twelve teams from around the world are geared up and ready for the four days of action-packed racing from London, circling around the Guernsey and Jersey Channel Islands, and ending in the coastal town of Bournemouth for a total of 750-nautical miles.
This weekend's race is designed to test the boats, crews and systems over a shorter course before next year's 2014 Venture Cup - a 2,400-mile, 15-day endurance powerboat race, stopping in 12 cities, and challenging offshore race teams with some of the biggest and toughest seas ever seen.
Among the Prologue Race competitors are three Ilmor-powered teams: "Cinzano 558", "Microlink Fury" and "Warpath."
The 104.5mph "Cinzano 558" is a 38' Aluminum CUV hull powered by two Ilmor MV10-725 engines. The crew, comprised of driver Markus Hendricks and throttleman Simon Wood-Power, has seen its fair share of victories, including Cowes Torquay 2009 and 2011, and Round Ireland 2010.
Powered by twin Ilmor MV7-10 engines, Team Voom Voom and its 112mph American-built Phantom "Microlink Fury" has spent a lot of time atop the winner's podium. Driver Vee Ganjavian and throttleman Gareth Williams won the 2012 Cowes Torquay, Needles Trophy, and Lymington Challenge, as well as this year's Grand Prix of the Sea in May 2013.
The final Ilmor-powered entry is the new Chief Warrior "Warpath," built in the United States by Bobby Saccenti of Chief Powerboats. The 42' carbon-fiber/Kevlar hull holds twin Ilmor MV10-725 engines. This 100+ mph boat will be making its racing debut at the Prologue Race, driven by Daryl Gradie and throtted by Ole Finholt.

The action begins on Thursday and Friday, June 6-7 at the free FanZone Event Village in Wood Wharf, Canary Wharf on the River Thames in central London.
Racing begins at 09:00 at Tower Bridge followed by a 10:30 hot start at Southend. The boats then race along the South Coast before crossing the Channel to Guernsey. Sunday, June 9, is a rest day for the teams, with racing resuming Monday, June 9 around the Channel Islands, with a stop in Jersey. Teams will race to the finish-line in Bournemouth on Tuesday, June 11, with a short parade to Poole for the prize-giving ceremony.
