For Chevrolet and Ilmor, the entire weekend was filled with excitement and promise for the new race season.  During qualifying, Will Power of Team Penske took pole - his fourth consecutive pole at St. Petersburg and the 30th of his career.  At the race start, four of the Firestone Fast Six Drivers were powered by the Chevrolet IndyCar V6 Twin Turbo Direct Injected Engine.

When the checkered flag flew at the end of the 110-lap race, six of the top seven finishers were Team Chevy drivers.  Last year's St. Petersburg winner, Helio Castroneves of Team Penske, finished second on the street course, while Marco Andretti of Andretti Autosport rounded out the podium for Team Chevy.  This is the second consecutive win for Chevrolet at the Grand Prix of St. Petersburg.

"I was so happy to get it done and get Go Daddy its first win in IndyCar," said Hinchcliffe. "Chevrolet back in Victory Circle...It's just a heck of a day!"

After capturing 11 race wins and four Championship Titles in 2012, Team Chevy and Ilmor are gearing up for more victories like St. Petersburg during the extended 19-race season.

"Preparing for the 2013 IndyCar season has been a team effort with all the Chevrolet teams.  It is a long season, but this is a solid way to start," said Jim Campbell, U.S. Vice President Performance Vehicles and Motorsports.

The second race of the 2013 IZOD IndyCar Series will be Grand Prix of Alabama at Barber Motorsports Park, Birmingham, Alabama on Sunday, April 7, 2013.  For more information, visit

About Ilmor

Ilmor Engineering was founded in 1984 when engineers Mario Illien (IL) and Paul Morgan (MOR) reached out to Roger Penske with a plan to build a better engine for the IndyCar racing series. Since then, legendary drivers like Andretti, Unser, and Castroneves have all driven cars powered by Ilmor engines.  Ilmor now has over 260 IndyCar race wins, 17 Indianapolis 500 victories, 44 Formula 1 wins, and two Formula 1 World Championships.

Since 2003, Ilmor has applied its expertise to the marine industry, creating completely unique engines for high performance powerboats.  These engines include the lightweight MV10-725, based on the Dodge Viper V-10, or the MV8-570, the most powerful small-block gasoline production engine today. Ilmor has also expanded its competitive tradition into powerboat racing, winning seven World Championships in Powerboat racing since 2007.

The positive response to Ilmor's products and customer service has resulted in Ilmor becoming a major supplier of powerboat engines and drives to boat makers all over the world, paving the way for product expansion. In 2010, Ilmor launched a series of inboard GM-based V-8 engines, all manufactured in its state-of-the-art 50,000 square foot marine engine assembly and test facility in Mooresville, North Carolina, specifically committed to managing the long term growth of our marine products.

Ilmor still follows the same principles put in place by its founders: innovative solutions, precision engineering and manufacturing, high quality, reliable products, and unrivaled customer support.
