~ This Sunday we journey into the concept of Trust ~
This may then beg the question - What is the difference between faith and trust?
Quite often Words of Zion, as I have long called them, are endlessly tossed about in religious circles. These words are used like salt, spicing up any conversation with the desired Christian flavor. But what do they mean? In this instance, are faith and trust the same thing? If not, what is the difference?
Faith is a noun. It is something we HAVE - and sometimes blindly - a substance or evidence of things hoped for and not seen. But faith is not necessarily trust. Trust in our context is a verb. Trust is something we DO. Trust is faith in action!
Faith says, "I believe God can." Trust says, "God IS - The I AM." Thus, I will think and act accordingly!
While I have faith enough to believe that the eye on my kitchen range will become hot when I turn it on - most of the time it does - but there are those rare instances that even my faith is not enough to make it work. I do, totally trust that once it is on, when the pot of boiling water reaches 212 degrees, it WILL BOIL - EVERY TIME - WITHOUT EXCEPTION - because "THAT IS."
Many of us have seen what God can do, so we believe (faith). When God calls us to come along for the ride and put our faith on the line and trust the "212 boil" do we step away from the stove?
Come gather on Sunday - and let's together celebrate our individual and collective faith - no matter where each of us are on this path ... and together learn to live into a life giving trust that brings new things to each of us uniquely. This is the only way we continue to be "Church as we Know it Can Be."
We will open our time of worship together with this Richard Smallwood favorite. Have a listen, or two, or three - make it this weekend's prayer mantra, sing along, and arrive ready!
