Color for Worship:  Green

When we are not in the seasons of Advent, Christmas, Lent or Easter,
we are in the growth period of Ordinary Time ...
- one between Epiphany and Ash Wednesday
- one between Pentecost and Advent
... marked by the living and hopeful color of Green.
While the 'seasons' of the church year focus upon one aspect
of the presence of God in our lives, Ordinary Time celebrates all aspects.

May your Ordinary Time be EXTRA-ordinary!

A modern-day version of the gospels, this 1973 movie version of Godspell opens with John the Baptist calling a disparate group of young New Yorkers from their workaday lives to follow and learn from Jesus. They form a roving acting troupe that enacts the parables through song and dance, comedy, and mime.

Godspell refuses to pretend to be anything more than it is.
It's not a message just for our time, or a movie to cash in on the Jesus movement, or even a teen flick. It's a series of stories and songs, just like our sacred texts, which are told with the directness that simple stories need: no tricks, no intellectual gadgets, and lots of openness.

Sometimes something at first glance a bit irreverent and wacky becomes endearing and the very thing that forces us to relax and open up.

Put on your metaphor hat and let this portion of the sermon on the mount wash over you in a new way. Yes, a couple of American icons seen in the clip are no longer standing - but one VERY important one is.  It is within our backdrops of life in the here and now that these stories are meant to inform.

By the way - What burns, heals, preserves, and seasons?
Come on Sunday to find out.
And hear the captain of our vessel issue the invitation, "Let's have some wine!"
