June in Truro ...
June is the month with the most daylight, over 15 hours, and June 20th is the Summer Solstice, when the sun is at its highest. Although this longest day is the first day of summer, it also marks the day when days start getting shorter, albeit slowly at first.
The warming trend continues with temperatures up almost 10 degrees from May. According to past records, we expect an average temperature to 64°F, with average lows of 56°F and highs of 72°F. We traditionally get a total of 2.7 inches of rain (about 25% drier than May).
Below are some of the activities and events happening about town this month.

We are proud to present a new event: THOREAU DAY. In honor of Thoreau's birthday, A MARATHON COMMUNITY READING OF THOREAU'S CAPE COD will take place at the Highland House Museum on July 15th. You can sign up at the Highland House Museum or at the Truro Public Library in order to read a section of the text. All are welcome to read or listen. The Highland House Museum will be open to the public all day.
We also have a new member benefit: As a member of the Truro Historical Society you now will have the opportunity to HOLD AN EVENT AT THE HIGHLAND HOUSE MUSEUM! With a donation based on the size of your party (up to 100 people), you can celebrate a birthday, anniversary, or wedding at one of Truro's best-known landmarks, the old Highland House, a hotel built on the Highlands in 1907. Located near the Highland Light in North Truro, it is a classic example of a turn-of-the-century summer resort hotel. For more information, contact director@trurohistoricalsociety.org
