March in Truro ...
This month we pick up 78 minutes of additional daylight, enough to bring temperatures up about 5 degrees from February.  Daylight Saving Time arrives Sunday March 13.
The longer day and the sun's higher arc in the sky are enough to generate 10% more power from our solar panels.
According to past records, we are told to expect an average temperature to 36F, with average lows of 29F and highs of 44F. We traditionally get an average total of 3 inches of rain and 8 inches of snow.
Below are some of the activities and events happening about town this month.

Artist Fellowship Award to Rosalind Pace
Truro resident Rosalind Pace is the only Cape Cod poet to win an Artist Fellowship Award from The Massachusetts Cultural Council. Rosalind Pace is a long-time contributor to The Castle Hill Poetry Group; a co-founder (1976) of "Image Making" arts workshop; and a mentor as a poet in residence at many Cape schools, most recently for students in grades six - eight in the Cape Cod Lighthouse Charter School in Harwich. In addition to mentoring a memoir-writing group at the Truro Council on Aging, Ms. Pace began a poetry seminar on March 3 at the Wellfleet Public Library.
Sustainable CAPE
Sustainable CAPE would like to invite everyone to our annual Children's Garden Art Exhibition at the Library. The exhibit, which is pastels on archival paper inspired by John James Audubon drawings, focuses upon this year's learning about birds, gardens, and the symbiotic relationships we share.
We are grateful for the community support we receive to run our children's programs both in school and out of school. We thank each and every one of you who has contributed to our growth and reach. And a special shout-out to the Truro Cultural Council who enables the depth and breadth of this Children's Community Garden Program. The program is a collaboration between Sustainable CAPE, the Truro Recreation Program, the Truro Public Library, Barnstable County 4-H, and AmeriCorps.
After Audubon is a beautiful display of children's learning and creativity, as well as the power of positive collaboration and mutual support. We hope you will have a chance to stop by the library and enjoy the show!
Commission on Disabilities
Every April people from around the world join together in support of Autism Awareness Month by lighting up their communities in blue. Help show your support by lighting up the Town of Truro for Autism Awareness. Lights go on April 2nd and stay on for the month of April. The Rogers Family and Wood End Construction have collaborated with Lands End Marine Supply to provide a limited number of lights which are available on a first-come-first-served basis. Lights can be picked up at the Truro Library and the Truro Police Station. You can also visit the Light It Up Blue Truro Facebook page. Let's Light It Up Blue Truro!
Historical Society
Since the Highland House Museum closed for the season in October, the Truro Historical Society has been hard at work. Our Collections Committee continues to document the wealth of materials in our collection and has been working with the Boston Public Library to convert postcards and other paper items to a digital format. Our Exhibitions Committee has been developing our offerings for the 2016 season, to include a continuation of our Living Legacy Project, which is funded by Truro Treasures; a celebration of the 20th anniversary of the moving of the Highland Light; and an exhibition entitled "Forest To Farm: Truro's Landscape Before and After Thoreau." Thanks to the generosity of our many supporters, our Annual Appeal has been very successful. It's not too late to add your support. We would be most grateful!
Our annual Gala Fundraising Dinner has been scheduled for Saturday evening, August 13, 2016. Originally the dining room of the Highland House Resort, the main hall of the Museum is the perfect setting for a party, and we hope to have another sold-out crowd to enjoy the festivities this summer. If you are interested in scheduling your own celebration at the Highland House Museum, you may contact us by email at: [email protected].
Please visit our website: trurohistoricalsociety.org for more information as the season approaches. As always, your ideas, financial support, and volunteer efforts are always welcome and greatly appreciated!
