April in Truro ...
This month we pick up 88 minutes of additional daylight, enough to bring temperatures up about 9 degrees from March. According to past records, we are told to expect an average temperature to 45°F, with average lows of 37°F and highs of 52°F. We traditionally get an average total of 3 inches of rain and only 1 inch of snow. It's early spring, and the above freezing temperatures and rain will slowly start to melt the snowpiles and thaw the frozen ground. Below are some of the activities and events happening about town this month.

Commission on Disabilities
The Commission on Disabilities is proud to announce we have been awarded a grant of $1,000 from the New England ADA Center along with the opportunity to host an ADA Field-Based Training Day. The purpose of the training day is to educate participants on how to conduct an "existing facilities review" and to identify solutions that will improve accessibility under the Americans with Disabilities Act. The award of $1,000 will go toward improving accessibility at Snow's Park (also known as the Truro Green.) Snow's Park presents challenges in addressing compliance with the ADA, and these are challenges the New England ADA Center likes! The Training Day, the first to be held on Cape Cod, will take place sometime this Spring or early Fall. |
Truro Food Pantry
Pantry volunteers Sally and Carl Brotman recently attended the Pantry Food Safety Workshop and passed the certification with flying colors. (In the interests of full-disclosure, all workshop participants passed.) Safety and recalls are an ongoing and essential part of the food handling and distribution process. The workshop is intended to take you out of your comfort zone enough to make sure each participant understands that food-borne illness can be serious, especially for children and immune-compromised individuals. The curriculum was developed by a team of nutrition and food safety professionals from the Greater Boston Food Bank (GBFB) and is required bi-annually for food pantries (such as Truro's) that distribute both perishable and non-perishable food from the GBFB. |

Truro - I Can't Wait to Get Back
About 10 years ago I made my way to Provincetown. My primary reason for going was to see the route that a friend of mine rides every year in the Pan Mass Challenge. Well I fell in love on the way with all the cottages on Route 6A in Truro. I vowed to do some more research and return the next summer. And return I did. Every year since then. From the peaceful evenings sitting watching the sunset to the hiking trails, every day is beautiful in Truro even if it's raining. And I can't say enough about the Truro Library and the great people that work there! This year has been a really tough winter. My hometown, as many other communities, received almost 100 inches of snow and we are still counting. During all those days shoveling, using my roof rake, and answering the phones at work trying to help people with their snow emergencies, I kept thinking of my favorite vacation place. Before I know it, it will be time for my yearly vacation in Truro and I can't wait. So thank you Truro for helping me make it through this tough winter!
