Truro Cultural Council
The Truro Cultural Council received a total of 17 applications for projects associated with community culture, arts, and sciences this past October. The Board will be reviewing these applications over the next many weeks and will meet to discuss and determine how best to divide the funds. Announcements listing the projects that will or can receive funding for 2015 will be announced in early January. The Truro Cultural Council is an assembly of local residents who are entrusted to fund local cultural projects via state monies that are allocated to the town. It is a volunteer board that reviews and processes proposed cultural projects (via State Guidelines) by groups, organizations, and individuals for the purpose of enriching Truro's cultural experience for its citizens and visitors. Each grant recipient is required, also, to follow guidelines as requested by Massachusetts and every individual Council.
Commission on Disabilities
Now that summer has passed, the Commission on Disabilities is interested in getting some feedback about the new mobi-mat at Corn Hill Beach. You may remember that the mat was purchased with a generous donation from Marcia Wade in honor of her longtime friend, Helen C. DeCiantis, who loved Corn Hill Beach. The mat was placed between the two benches at the top of the boardwalk. If the mobi-mat helped you to enjoy your beach experience, we'd like to hear about it. Please send your comments to us by mail to the Truro Commission on Disabilities, c/o Town Hall (24 Town Hall Rd., P.O. Box 2030, Truro, MA 02666) or by email to our Chairperson, Susan Howe: truromom@aol.com. Thanks!

Potassium Iodide (KI) Pills
The MA Department of Public Health supplies potassium iodide (KI) tablets to communities on Cape Cod. KI is an iodide salt to protect the thyroid should an emergency at the Pilgrim Nuclear Power Station in Plymouth release radioactive iodine into the air. It is important that everyone pick up the KI pills from the Health Department at Town Hall -- distribution of the KI pills will not occur during a radiological emergency.  A single dose of KI protects the thyroid gland for 24 hours.
KI should be used along with other emergency measures, such as sheltering-in-place.  Due to gridlock and bridge closings, timely evacuation from Truro is not possible, and there is no state plan to evacuate the Cape.  (see map showing Pilgrim Nuclear and the Sagamore Bridge)

Happiness is like a butterfly: the more you chase it, the more it will elude you, but if you turn your attention to other things, it will come and sit softly on your shoulder."
