December in Truro ...

     This month, days will shorten by 13 minutes until we reach the winter solstice on December 21st, the shortest daylight day of the year.  It sure seems like winter has come early this year!
      Shorter days will drop the average high temperature to 41°F, with average lows of 28°F.  We get about 7 days of rain or snow with an average total of 4 inches of rain and 7 inches of snow. Expect 2 out of 3 nights to dip below freezing.

    Below are some of the activities and events happening about town this month.

Holiday Shopping Night

The 3rd Annual Holiday Shopping Night will be held at the Truro Central School on Thursday, December 5th, 5-7pm.  Proceeds from this event help support the TEEA and enrichment programs at TCS.

Friday, December 6, 6-8pm Truro Community Center.  All proceeds benefit the 5th and 6th grade class trips to Boston and Washington, DC!

Toys for Tots
Please join Truro Fire Rescue and the Truro Police Department in support of Toys for Tots by donating toys this Christmas.  These toys will be distributed right here on Cape Cod to families in need this holiday season. All toys should be new and unwrapped and dropped off at any of these locations: Seamens Bank, Public Safety Facility, both Post Offices, Community Center, Public Library, Central School, and Savory and the Sweet Escape. 
Highland Links Golf Course

Stuart and Jim put the course to sleep the last week of November, and now the Links is on the "Honor System."   With the holidays fast approaching you can purchase a 2014 Gift Certificate for that special golfer you know.

Truro Center for the Arts at Castle Hill
Truro Center for the Arts would like to invite the public to a Winter Soup-r-stition Party and Art Auction, from 6-10pm on Friday the 13th in the Main Barn at Castle Hill. Castle Hill will honor Truro residents and Castle Hill Supporters: Robert Jackson, Carol Warshawsky, Vicky Tomayko, Carol Green and Ruth Hollander. All proceeds will go towards a new residency program proposed for The Truro Center for the Arts at Edgewood Farm. More...
Truro Central School

The first and sixth graders made a recent trip to Hillside Farm in Truro. They visited the pigs that feast on the school lunch waste collected daily as part of the school cafeteria recycling program.

Grades K-6 recently celebrated a ninth year of participation in Mix-It-Up Lunch Day, a worldwide event sponsored by Teaching Tolerance.

Assessor Office - Personal Property and Tax
Personal property is comprised of furniture, furnishings, goods, merchandise, equipment, tools, machinery, and other movable items not attached to part of the real estate (land, buildings, and other attached improvements).
It is assessed separately from the real estate to certain businesses, public utilities, and to owners of homes that are not their primary residences. Residents are required to fill out their street listing (Town census) every year.

Property Tax Assistance for Elderly or Disabled
Assistance in the form of grants may be available to help you pay your Property Taxes if you are Elderly or Disabled. The town of Truro has a fund that is available to elderly and disabled residents to receive property tax assistance. The applicant must meet certain guidelines.   More...
Housing Rehab Program
The town was awarded the Federal Housing and Urban Development (HUD) CDBG grant from the state. Truro has received $680,907 for loans that are up to $35,000. Typical rehab projects include code violations, energy efficient upgrades, electrical, heating and hot water, windows and doors, roofs and siding.   More...
