What to Do When the Market
Takes a Downturn

With so much change in the oil & gas industry in the last six months, it is sometimes difficult to avoid the "doom & gloom" attitude of market analysts, especially if your job or employer is in jeopardy of cutbacks. But as a whole, the peaks and valleys of engineering, capital projects, staffing and layoffs always seem to level out with their limbs in tact. If you find yourself in a job pinch, keep abreast of industry trends and use down time to brush up the resume, take a software class or create or polish up your professional LinkedIn Profile. Are you just a few classes away from that engineering degree? Go back to school and finish. Update your references because you are going to need them as you compete with the influx of job seekers in the market, and send your resume to your favorite staffing firm to help you assist your job search: Sirius Technical. Also update any online search engine profiles: (Careerbuilder , Monster, Roadtechs.
By being pro-active, you will stay on top of your game and weather out the storm. Be the employee who is pleasant to work with and helpful to others, so that your value is higher than the bump on the computer next to you. Attitude can help keep you employed!
