SIRIUS QUARTERLY SAFETY MOMENT

When the thunder roars, go indoors!

Lightning Safety for You and Your Family

Over 400 people per year in the United States are struck by lightning.  Between 55 and 60 people die and others suffer permanent neurological damage. Most of these tragedies can be avoided with a few simple precautions. Knowledge is Power!

1. Have a lightning safety plan:  prepare where you will go and how long it will take to get there should thunderstorms threaten outdoors activities.
2. Postpone outdoor activities:  check the forecast and follow thunderstorms potential. Remember, all thunderstorms produce lightning.
3. Monitor the weather:  Look for signs of developing thunderstorms, high winds, lightning or dark clouds
4. Move to a safe place:  If you hear thunder even without the presence of lightning, get to a safe place.  All thunderstorms produce lightning whether you see it or not.
5. Keep away from electrical equipment and wiring.
6. Water pipes conduct electricity; don't take a bath or use plumbing during a thunderstorm.

LinkedIn

If you have not yet "LinkedIn" to the social networking train, then this site should be your first stop!

Benefits of LinkedIn

LinkedIn is a networking website that is geared toward industry professionals and companies in search of new contacts or simply interacting with colleagues and clients. Users of LinkedIn can create profiles that show employment history, recommendations, commercial accomplishments as well as other certifications.

1. Accessible by anyone

Most of the services offered by LinkedIn are free and it provides the user the opportunity to expose their professional resume online if they choose. LinkedIn is also simple to use and can be setup easily by anyone.

2. Informative groups

LinkedIn provides a great avenue to keep business professionals up to date about company information and products through a group. These groups work as forums in which members can engage in conversations about products, events, opportunities and other issues. There is a great range of LinkedIn groups to make certain that all aspects of business are covered.

3. Job applications

LinkedIn also offers job information by partnering with various websites. This ensures that all advertised posts can be seen by scores of professionals who are using LinkedIn. One nice advantage is that job postings can be shared between contacts. This additional benefit can help you find the most suitable career opportunities, even if you aren't looking!

4. Event creation

LinkedIn enables the creation of events like conferences, training events and trade-shows. The events are usually accessible to members with similar professional interests and are great networking opportunities.
