Holiday Travels and Seat-belt Safety
The 2012 Thanksgiving Day holiday period begins at 6:00 p.m., Wednesday, November 21, and ends at 11:59 p.m., Sunday, November 25. The National Safety Council estimate of traffic fatalities for this 4.25-day holiday period is 451 deaths. Nonfatal medically consulted injuries, i.e. injuries (serious enough that a medical professional was consulted), are estimated at 48,300. The Thanksgiving Day holiday period is always 4.25 days in length. The estimated fatality total for 2012 is 12% less than the average actual number of fatalities (512) that occurred during the previous six Thanksgiving Day holiday periods for which data are available. An evaluation of recent Thanksgiving Day holiday period estimates is presented in the table below:
Evaluation of Recent Thanksgiving Day Holiday Period Estimates
| Year | Estimate | 90% Confidence Interval | Actual | | 2005 | 610 | 505-735 | 605 | | 2006 | 555 | 500-615 | 623 | | 2007 | 564 | 499-635 | 542 | | 2008 | 479 | 415-551 | 484 | | 2009 | 447 | 392-508 | 401 | | 2010 | 441 | 378-513 | 417 |
Studies have shown that seat belts, when used, are 45% effective in preventing fatalities among front-seat passenger car occupants. Although the reduction in the risk of fatal injury from wearing seat belts is higher for light-truck occupants at 50%, the lower figure for passenger car occupants is used in the calculations here as the more conservative measure. The most recent data from the Fatality Analysis Reporting System (FARS) indicate that seat belt use by fatally injured passenger car and light truck occupants was 44.8%. Based on this information, it is estimated that 165 person's lives may be saved this Thanksgiving Day holiday period because they will wear their safety belts.
So, wear your SEAT BELTS and keep the family safe!

All of us here at Sirius were saddened to say farewell to our "Josh" as he moved on to a new venture this past month. Josh Meek was with Sirius for four years, had a new baby with his wife Holly this past year, and was recently offered a local opportunity that he couldn't pass up. We hate to see you go Josh (and your male perspective in the office!), but we wish you a ton of success in your new position and we will greatly miss you!

We Give Thanks.....
This holiday season, the staff and owners of Sirius Technical Services would like to say "thank you". We want you to know how honored and thankful we are to know you and to work with each and every one of you. When we opened our doors in 2005, we had no idea what God had in store for this company!. We have grown by leaps and bounds since placing our very first contractor, John Jakins, at our first client, Signal International. Now with over 210 contract employees, an additional 150-200 pay-rolled employees, and a staff of 19, we are never too "busy" to remember how we got here. So many of you have contributed to the success of Sirius through your talents, your referrals, and your loyalty. Please know we are thankful for all you've done to help get us here, and we strive to be your staffing partner "of choice" for years to come. Again, thank you! And may you and your family be richly blessed this holiday season~ The Sirius Staff
Spread the Gratitude!

Co-Employment
What is co-employment and how does it affect you?
Simply defined, co-employment is a commercial relationship between two legally distinct employers that have an employer-employee relationship with the same person.
If you are a contract employee, it is very important that you understand the responsibilities of your employer, the staffing company. The staffing company pays the employee, pays and withholds payroll taxes, provides workers compensation coverage, has the right to hire and fire, hears and acts on complaints from the employee about working conditions, provides and manages employer benefits if available, etc. You should always direct any questions that are derived from these areas only to your employer, the staffing company.
The client where you accept your assignment generally supervise and direct the employees' day-to-day work, control conditions at the work site, and determine the length of the assignment. If you have specific job or project related questions, those questions should be directed to your supervisor at the client assignment.
It is very important that these areas of responsibility are defined and that the employee, the employer and the client are familiar of where their responsibilities fall in the relationship. If you have any questions or concerns about co-employment, please feel free to contact a representative here at Sirius. Our staff is trained and certified by the American Staffing Association to give expert advice in this very important aspect of contract employment.
