Egg Freezing No Longer Labeled Experimental
|
Last month ReproTech staff attended the annual meeting of the American Society for Reproductive Medicine (ASRM) in San Diego. This is THE big event for the reproductive industry, and this year was particularly exciting with the announcement that ASRM has lifted the "experimental" label from egg (oocyte) freezing techniques in certain cases.
From the report, "...among the medical indications for its use are fertility preservation for patients who may be left infertile following medical treatments for other diseases, some genetic conditions, or IVF treatment interrupted by the unexpected inability to obtain sperm."

Most of the fertility clinics in ReproTech's Fertility Preservation Network now offer egg freezing, but with the experimental label lifted, we can expect to see even more clinics offering this procedure, and ASRM hopes the new policy will encourage insurance companies to pay for egg freezing.

This video shares Tai's story of her wish and how her experience with Make-A-Wish has come full circle in her current position as graphic and web designer for the same organization that granted her wish 10 years ago.

Fertility Preservation: A Patient's Choice
|
The article "Breast Cancer Patients Have Options on Preserving Fertility" was posted in the Dallas Morning News last month. Emily Eargle of LiveSTRONG's Sharing Hope Programs was quoted in the article. RTL works closely with Emily and her team, and this quote echos some of the responses RTL staff has also received from oncology professionals regarding offering fertility preservation services:
"The biggest error that we're seeing is that people are not having the conversation based on assumptions - that they're too old, or too young, or that it's not safe, or they don't think it's affordable,"

The decision to proceed or not proceed with fertility preservation services is your patient's, and members of the patient's oncology team now have the opportunity to educate patients and offer them resources to enable them to make this decision. Please contact ReproTech if you would like to receive educational materials or referrals on fertility preservation.
