Capacity-Building Q&A with Amelia Korangy
What tools, skills, or capacity-building activities have the greatest impact on a cohort of grantees?
In working with several different cohorts, we've learned that coaching is a critical ingredient in capacity building. Good coaching provides grantees with an chance for honest reflection and a sounding board for ideas. In several recent projects, we've seen how coaching develops and encourages strong leadership - a crucial piece of organizational capacity - helping EDs to tap into their own motivation and that of their staff. Coaching can be the difference between organizations that simply create plans and those that actually implement and learn from them.
How can funders support cohorts?
Connecting grantees across a cohort proves to be one of the most valuable contributions funders can make. There is a lot of knowledge and expertise within each member. By creating a collaborative environment, grantees are able to crowd-source and cross-pollinate ideas, share resources, and learn together. It is exciting to see how organizations in a cohort adapt and strengthen over time.
