What's New in Metastatic Breast Cancer Research
Shirley
Shirley Mertz
Greetings!,

I found this excellent 20 minute presentation on YouTube and I wanted to share it with you:

Nancy Lin, MD, of the Susan F. Smith Center for Women's Cancers at Dana-Farber, talks about the differences between types of breast cancer, and new therapies that are being developed to treat the disease. This presentation was originally given at the Metastatic Breast Cancer Forum held at Dana-Farber on Oct. 5, 2013. The program was sponsored by EMBRACE (Ending Metastatic Breast Cancer for Everyone).

We are working on MBCN's Fall conference which will be held the weekend of September 19-21. Please help spread the word by distributing the Save the Date flyer. (see below)  We expect to open registration in July. Travel scholarships will be available to those with financial need. Stay tuned!

Warmest regards,

Shirley

P.S. If you are  young person in the vicinity of Newport News, VA, we've just learned of a new in-person metastatic breast cancer support group. Contact Rene Bowditch at rene@beyondboobs.org for more information.

Robyn's Story

Robyn found her usual method of 'bullying through' a problem just didn't work with mbc.

Write Your Story

We are thinking ahead to October and have already received some inquiries from media on stories about the experience of living with metastatic breast cancer.
HELP US OUT!
Use your powerful voice to write and/or speak about your story and issues pertaining to
mbc. Submit your story to our website. Our story editor can help you edit it and focus your ideas. Read others stories on our website: http://mbcn.org/get-involved/category/inspirational-stories/

TIPS
Begin your story with a general introduction of who you are and your breast cancer history. Follow this by sharing your particular struggles (living with uncertainty, treatment decisions, coping with side effects, raising children, making job changes, relationship issues) Conclude with how you are managing to move forward with the disease. Readers tend to respond to a balance of realism and hopefulness in a story.  As you write, you may see a theme emerge and may want to concentrate on just one thread of your experience.

The act of writing your story will focus you on what your personal message is from your
experience and becomes the basis for writing letters to the editor or being interviewed.
