Letter from the MBCN President
Shirley
Shirley Mertz
,

Thank you to all who sent donations to MBCN throughout the year, but particularly in response to our end of year appeal. We appreciate your generosity and pledge to continue to work hard for the metastatic breast cancer community.

I urge you to find 15 minutes to view this excellent video---Genes, Drugs and Breast Cancer---on the work of Dr. Matthew Ellis at the Siteman Cancer Center in St. Louis. Dr. Ellis is an oncologist who does collaborative research to improve outcomes in the clinic for metastatic breast cancer patients.

Plans are already under way for our 2014 annual conference. We'll share more details in the months to come. As always, we welcome your questions and feedback. Drop us a line at mbcn@mbcn.org.

Sincerely,

Shirley Mertz

President

 Controversy on mbc blogger

Lisa Bonchek Adams has metastatic breast cancer and has been blogging and tweeting about her experience with mbc for the last year. New York Times columnist Bill Keller wrote a controversial piece, personally criticizing Adams' use of social media and mischaracterizing her opinions and outlook on living (and dying) with mbc.

If you haven't been following the controversy, you can catch up on it below. MBCN entered the fray, supporting Lisa and trying to educate Mr. Keller and the public about mbc:

Vote for our mbc video!

MBCN Board member Katherine O'Brien has entered a short video in a Canadian Breast Fest contest --
"Dumb Things People Say to People with Metastatic Breast Cancer"

Check it out! (If you attended our September Houston conference, you'll recognize it, since we also played it there, although we had to change the music.)

By clicking below you get 3 votes which you can cast for one video or vote for several videos. Metastatic Breast Cancer Alliance also has a great video in the running called Living with MBC.

Please take a minute and vote to spread the word about living with metastatic breast cancer. You have until Feb 14 and you only get 3 votes total. (You don't have to vote everyday!) Thanks!
