November Housekeeping

We're entering our last full month of this semester, and it's bound to be a busy one as you finish up your coursework, prepare for finals, and eat mass amounts of turkey, gravy, stuffing, and, of course, pie. On top of all that, you also get to start thinking about next semester!

On Monday, October 27th, the Spring 2015 course list was made available. There are about two weeks between the arrival of the course list and the start of registration. Use this time to meet with your advisor to discuss the courses you are interested in taking next semester. Preparation is the key to beating the registration rush and getting into your classes early will ensure that you do not end up on the wait list. Registration opens up on November 10 for degree seeking students and November 17 for non-degree seeking students.

You should also be filling out scholarship applications in your free time. Having too much money makes life at UAF a lot easier than having too little, so be financially prepared for next semester! Your advisor is a great resource for financial aid, as is the Financial Aid Office!

Positive Connection Nights

Start off your weekend at RSS with a Positive Connection Night! You'll be surrounded by friends, activity, and good food!

We only have one PCN to look forward to this month, and it's on November 21st. We'll be celebrating the leadership of the Elders in our community. Stop by the Gathering Room at 5:00pm to grab some Thanksgiving-style food and hang out!

Doyon Foundation Visit

Maureen Isaacson will be in the Gathering Room on November 10th from 9-4pm to help students apply for Doyon Foundation's spring scholarship. If you haven't applied yet, or are stuck, make sure to get some help!

The deadline is November 15th!

Law Enforcement Presentation

Are you interested in becoming a law enforcement officer?

On November 13th at 2:00pm, we will have Captain Burke Barrick of the Interior Region of the Alaska State Troopers and Officer Jody Potts, Commander of Tanana Chiefs Conference VPSO Program in the Gathering Room to discuss careers in law enforcement. If you've ever wondered what you need to do or if law enforcement is the right field for you, stop by and listen to what they have to say!

If you're interested but the time doesn't work for you, let us know! We can arrange another meeting to suit your needs.

Tutoring Services

We hope you're doing great in all of your classes! However, if you feel like you're falling behind or just need a little extra help, make sure you talk to a tutor.

We have tons of help on campus, at CTC, and even online! Whether you need to talk to someone about Math, English, Science, or a Foreign Language, you're covered. Visit our tutor page to figure out where and when tutors are available in your subject.

In the Gathering Room at RSS, we have tutors from the American Indian Science and Engineering Society to help you with Math, Science, and Engineering questions. You can view their schedule here. We also have tutors from 2-4:00pm Monday through Thursday from the Writing Center to help you with your papers!

Financial Help
The Financial Aid Office is great when you need help with scholarships, grants and loans, but that's not all they do! They also have a wide array of workshops designed to help you efficiently manage your money. If you want to be smart with your money, attend one or all of the following sessions! This is a listing for November, look for the next Reachout to see their later workshops.
