Ready or Not
We're entering our last full month of this semester, and it's bound to be a busy one as you finish up your coursework, prepare for finals, and eat mass amounts of turkey, gravy, stuffing and, of course, pie. On top of all that, you also get to start thinking about next semester!

On Monday, October 29, the Spring 2013 course list was made available. There are about two weeks between the arrival of the course list and the start of registration. Use this time to meet with your advisor to discuss the courses you are interested in taking next semester. Preparation is the key to beating the registration rush and getting into your classes early will ensure that you do not end up on the wait list. Registration opens up on November 12 for degree-seeking students and November 19 for non-degree-seeking students.

You should also be filling out scholarship applications in your free time. Having too much money makes life at UAF a lot easier than having too little, so be financially prepared for next semester! Your advisor is a great resource for financial aid.
Get Out And Vote
Tuesday, November 6th is the day where you get to make your opinion count! Be sure to grab your state or UAF ID and head over to the Wood Center on either the 5th or 6th between 8:00am and 5:00pm to vote for our next leaders!

The Wood Center is an absentee voting location, so there will be ballots for all 40 districts across Alaska. This means that you can vote for national, statewide and your home community's offices and propositions.

Positive Connection Nights
We had a great time October's Halloween
L to R: Eric Hamar as Da-ka-xeen Mehner, Gerald Patsy as a Jester, and Marjorie Tahbone as the Inuit Goddess Sedna
Celebration. Scary stories were told, fun snacks were eaten, and though it was a little late getting done, the moose soup was well worth the wait! To our attendees, we thank you for your energy, humor, outstanding storytelling capabilities, and appetites. We hope you had as much fun as we did!

Don't forget to attend our last Positive Connection Night of the semester, coming up on November 30th. This one will be coordinated by the Alaska Native Education Student Association (ANESA), and though we don't know what they have in store for us yet, one thing is for sure... There will be food! When we find out what the activity will be, we will post it on our Facebook page, so watch for updates.
"Growing Native"
Shirley Sneve, the Executive Director of Native American  Public Telecommunications (NAPT), will host a potluck in the RSS Gathering Room on November 1st from 1-2pm. Her purpose is to raise awareness and gather facts for the new NAPT TV series, "Growing Native."

"Growing Native" is a TV series that seeks to reclaim traditional knowledge and diet in order to address health, human, and environmental issues. It will focus on the history of seven different areas, including the Northwest, Southwest, Southern Plains/Oklahoma, Northeast, Southeast, Northern Plains/Canada, and Alaska.

This is an exciting opportunity! Please join us for the potluck and use it to help represent your own culture! If you don't want to stop there, there will be many opportunities to be involved in the "Growing Native" project. Also, if you are willing and able, feel free to bring your favorite Native dish to share with everyone!
