CRLS Walks for ALS in support of a colleague:

Please join us or donate to the Walk for ALS being held this Saturday, October 26. 10:00 to 11:00 am. The event is a two mile walk at Carson's beach in Boston.  So far the CRLS team of 34 participants have raised $3435 with a final goal of $5000. Please help us reach our goal.

PSAT at Cambridge Rindge and Latin School on Wednesday October 30th:

On October 30, 2013 CRLS will have an altered daily schedule due to administration of the PSAT/ NMSQT for 10th and 11th grade students, and the Readistep Assessment for 9th grade students.  All, 9th, 10th and 11th grade students are expected to arrive to school by 8:05 AM on October 30, 2013 in order to take the PSAT or the Readistep.  12th grade students are expected to arrive to school by 11:08 AM for their Block 3 class.

PSAT administration will end at 11:08 AM and students in all grades will follow the schedule listed below-  

Lunch A: 11:12-11:42 AM then Block 3 class- 11:46 AM- 12:24 PM
OR
Block 3 Class 11:12-11:50 AM then Lunch B -11:54 AM - 12:24 PM

12:28- 1:06 PM    Block 4

1:10- 1:48 PM - Block 1

1:52- 2:30 PM - Block 2

Parents and teens are invited to Cambridge Family and Children's Service's 1st Annual Violence Awareness event on Saturday, October 26th.

Attendees will hear from guest speaker Malcolm Astley who will discuss his personal experience with teen dating violence and the tragic murder of his teenage daughter, Lauren. Malcolm's talk will be followed by a workshop and panel discussion from local experts. For adults, panel experts from a range of fields (education, mental health, law enforcement) will discuss how to identify if a teen is in an unhealthy relationship and how to intervene. For teens/young adults age 12-22, Start Strong Initiative headed by the Boston Public Health Commission will present Teen Dating Violence 101. Breakfast, Raffle & Prizes!! WINTER SPORTS MEETING FOR STUDENTS:
All students interested in trying out for a winter sport team, must attend a very important meeting on Wednesday, October 30th, 2013.  This meeting will begin at 2:30PM in the Gymnasium.  Important information for student eligibility as well as tryout times and dates will be shared at this meeting.  There will be an opportunity to meet with coaches as well at this meeting. CRLS Student Work Screening at Arlington International Film Festival:

3 films by Cambridge Rindge and Latin students will be screened for the public at the Arlington International Film Festival.
Students will be honored at a Prescreening Reception for filmmakers and families followed by The Student Film Program Festival Screening open to the public:

Skiers and Snow Boarders:
Signup has started for the overnight ski trip that is taking place over February vacation to Stow Vermont. For more information, please see Jon Barin-Gould in 3602 or email him at jbaring-gould@cpsd.us. In order to sign up you must bring a non-refundable $100 deposit.

CRLS Flu Clinic (students only):
Attention Parents/Guardians: In conjunction with the Department of Public Health and Cambridge Public Schools, we are excited to offer a Free Flu Clinic at CRLS for all CRLS students.

Community Service Hours:
Student volunteers needed at the 17th Annual Cambridge Family Literacy Fun Day. The event will be held at Cambridge City Hall. It is for families with children Pre-K through Grade 3. Help is needed with setting up for the event on the
morning of Saturday, November 2nd. Also, we need help at the different stations, and with clean up at the end. The event will run from 10:30am to 2:30pm. Volunteers can work in shifts of 2-3 hours, or for the whole event. Set-up will begin at 8am and clean-up is usually over by 3/3:30pm. We provide free lunch (pizza) to all attendees and volunteers. Volunteers will receive a certificate. If you are interested, please email Debbie Bonilla at dbonilla@cpsd.us or call her at 617-349-6492.

CSV mentors are attentive listeners, patient, caring, and skilled tutors who break down the college application process into manageable steps to reach deadlines and individual goals of students. Once students meet mentors they may schedule alternate days.

School Committee Candidates Forum : Focus on CRLS
 
Friends of CRLS will sponsor a School Committee Candidates Forum at Cambridge Rindge and Latin School on Wednesday, October 30 at the Main Cafeteria from 7-8:30 PM. The main cafeteria is located on the first floor of the Main building at CRLS, 459 Broadway in Cambridge.

This is an important chance for the CRLS community to hear the candidates address issues of concern to us, and for the candidates to meet the CRLS community. With two current school committee members not seeking re-election, this will be a crucial election for the Cambridge schools.

The CRLS alumni association is supporting the event as a co-sponsor.

Mindset
