Parents and teens are invited to Cambridge Family and Children's Service's 1st Annual Violence Awareness event on Saturday, October 26th.
Attendees will hear from guest speaker Malcolm Astley who will discuss his personal experience with teen dating violence and the tragic murder of his teenage daughter, Lauren. Malcolm's talk will be followed by a workshop and panel discussion from local experts. For adults, panel experts from a range of fields (education, mental health, law enforcement) will discuss how to identify if a teen is in an unhealthy relationship and how to intervene. For teens/young adults age 12-22, Start Strong Initiative headed by the Boston Public Health Commission will present Teen Dating Violence 101. Breakfast, Raffle & Prizes!! Parking limited. PACE Program-for Students 16+ 9 sessions of Personal & Career Exploration to help students succeed in the workplace. TURKEY TRIP: Student Trip to TURKEY - June 2014 There will be a trip to Turkey for students in June 2014. Besides seeing the ancient sites of the Roman, Byzantine and Ottoman Empires that they learned about in their history classes, our students will meet people from different cultural backgrounds, have a chance to share a meal with Turkish families and be aware of a country that is filled with history and natural beauty and people who are extremely hospitable and generous.

Guest Visitation Day: The MIT/Wellesley Upward Bound Program is having a on Thursday, October 24th from 3:00-6:00p.m for CRLS Freshmen & Sophomores. Guest Visitation Day is a great way for students to learn about the Program from current students and staff. Upward Bound is located at 265 Massachusetts Ave. Building N52-130- first floor (Next to the MIT Museum Building).

CSV mentors are attentive listeners, patient, caring, and skilled tutors who break down the college application process into manageable steps to reach deadlines and individual goals of students. Once students meet mentors they may schedule alternate days.

PSAT at Cambridge Rindge and Latin School on Wednesday October 30th:
On Wednesday, October 30, 2013 from 8:00am to approximately 11:00 a.m., CRLS will be administering the Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude Test (PSAT) / National Merit Qualifying Test. This exam is given once a year and we are requiring that all sophomores and juniors take the exam. There is no cost for the PSAT; the Cambridge School Department will cover the cost of the exam.
Practice tests (PSAT, SAT, AP, ACT, etc.), exam prep books, a Family College Planning Center, and other helpful resources are available through the Testing & Education Reference Center, provided by the Pearl K. Wise Library at Cambridge Rindge and Latin School.

C-PAC School Committee Candidate Forum Wednesday, October 23, 2013 at 6:30 p.m. Nine candidates are seeking election to the 2014-16 Cambridge School Committee. Composed of 6 members, there will be 2 vacancies this year.
Mindset Wednesday, November 13, 2013 at 6:30 p.m. Join C-PAC and co-hosts, the Office of Academic Challenge & Enrichment and the Citywide Parent Advisory Group for a discussion of Carol Dweck's Mindset, focused on supporting diverse students to develop a "growth mindset" that will set them up for success.
Shut Up About Your Perfect Kid! Wednesday, December 11, 2013 at 6:30 p.m. Authors Gina Gallagher & Patricia Kanjoian will educate and entertain with their personal stories of imperfect parenting and the movement of imperfection.

School Committee Candidates Forum : Focus on CRLS Friends of CRLS will sponsor a School Committee Candidates Forum at Cambridge Rindge and Latin School on Wednesday, October 30 at the Main Cafeteria from 7-8:30 PM. The main cafeteria is located on the first floor of the Main building at CRLS, 459 Broadway in Cambridge.
This is an important chance for the CRLS community to hear the candidates address issues of concern to us, and for the candidates to meet the CRLS community. With two current school committee members not seeking re-election, this will be a crucial election for the Cambridge schools.
The CRLS alumni association is supporting the event as a co-sponsor.

WINTER SPORTS MEETING FOR STUDENTS: All students interested in trying out for a winter sport team, must attend a very important meeting on Wednesday, October 30th, 2013. This meeting will begin at 2:30PM in the Gymnasium. Important information for student eligibility as well as tryout times and dates will be shared at this meeting.
