COLLEGE PLANNING, MENTORING, APPLICATIONS & ESSAY WRITING~

When:   Wednesdays, 2:30-5:00pm

What:    Cambridge School Volunteer Mentors partners with CCRC

CSV mentors are attentive listeners, patient, caring, and skilled tutors who break down the college application process into manageable steps to reach deadlines and individual goals of students. Once students meet mentors they may schedule alternate days.

New Extended Hours:
The Pearl K. Wise student library at CRLS is pleased to announce new extended hours this year from 7:30 am to 5:00 pm. Thank you to Principal Smith for supporting these new hours! Homework Center tutoring help will be available in the library every day except Tuesday from 2:30 - 4:00.
Parents and teens are invited to Cambridge Family and Children's Service's 1st Annual Violence Awareness event on Saturday, October 26th.

Attendees will hear from guest speaker Malcolm Astley who will discuss his personal experience with teen dating violence and the tragic murder of his teenage daughter, Lauren. Malcolm's talk will be followed by a workshop and panel discussion from local experts. For adults, panel experts from a range of fields (education, mental health, law enforcement) will discuss how to identify if a teen is in an unhealthy relationship and how to intervene. For teens/young adults age 12-22, Start Strong Initiative headed by the Boston Public Health Commission will present Teen Dating Violence 101. Breakfast, Raffle & Prizes!! 9 sessions of Personal & Career Exploration to help students succeed in the workplace. ($9/hr. for up to 17 hours) Sessions meet on Tuesdays after school from 10/29-12/17

PSAT at Cambridge Rindge and Latin School on Wednesday October 30th:

On Wednesday, October 30, 2013 from 8:00am to approximately 11:00 a.m., CRLS will be administering the Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude Test (PSAT) / National Merit Qualifying Test. This exam is given once a year and we are requiring that all sophomores and juniors take the exam. There is no cost for the PSAT; the Cambridge School Department will cover the cost of the exam.
   
Practice tests (PSAT, SAT, AP, ACT, etc.), exam prep books, a Family College Planning Center, and other helpful resources are available through the Testing & Education Reference Center, provided by the Pearl K. Wise Library at Cambridge Rindge and Latin School.

SCHOOL COMMITTEE CANDIDATE FORUM:

Be informed:  Come learn about the candidates for Cambridge School Committee at a School Committee Candidates Forum, Wednesday, October 16, 6:30-8:30 pm, Cambridge Public Library, Lecture Hall.  All nine candidates will participate and answer questions about their views on the Cambridge Public Schools.

Municipal elections for Cambridge School Committee and Cambridge City Council are on Tuesday, November 5th.  Register to vote by Wednesday, October 16, 8:00 pm. 
SCHOOL YEAR CALENDAR CHANGE:
On September 17, 2013, at their regular meeting, the Cambridge School Committee voted to make a change in the current year's school calendar.  Please note that all CPS schools will be CLOSED on Monday, October 14 and Tuesday, October 15.  School will return to session on Wednesday, October 16.  An updated school calendar is posted on the CPS website

October 2013 ( C-PAC ) Workshops & Meetings:

Please join us for this year's workshops and special meetings. Unless otherwise noted, meetings take place at Cambridge Rindge and Latin School, located at 459 Broadway. Meetings are free and open to the public. Childcare and light refreshments are provided.
