World Jazz Ensemble - Open Auditions!

World Jazz Ensemble (WJE) is a student ensemble directed by Guillermo Nojechowicz.  This is a class and offers credit.

Last year was stellar.  WJE played many concerts at school and around town.  In addtion the ensemble was the opening act for the 2013 CRLS Graduation Concert.

We also had clinicians and professional performers visiting us.  Last spring, Grammy Award winning saxman Joshua Redman visited Music Department.  Mr. Redman was very impressed with the student's performance, specially with vocalist and former Senior Maya Sommer (currently a freshman at Bard College).

In addition founding member of New York Voices and El Eco, singer Kim Nazarian came to CRLS and offer a wonderful vocal clinic.  This clinic possible due to a Rotary Grant. Ms. Nazarian listened to the WJE vocalists as well as students of Mr. Brian O'Connell.  She offered interesting and insightful comments about vocal technique as well as how to improve your sound projection.

This year World Jazz Ensemble is back! Classes will be on Thursday evenings starting at 6:00 pm. Currently the Music Department at VPA is running Open Auditions.  If you would like to be part of this jazz ensemble Please email gnojechowicz@cpsd.us

Latin student trip to France/Italy - Feb. Vacation 2014:

Right after the Open House, there will be a parent/student meeting for any Latin students interested in traveling to southern France and Italy over February vacation 2014. In France we will visit four of the best preserved ancient Roman sites in the world: a temple, amphitheatre, aqueduct, and theatre. In Italy, there will be stops in Milan, Cumae, Naples and Pompeii. In Rome the students will visit the major ancient sites as well as the Sistine Chapel and St. Peter's Basilica. We will wrap up the trip with an afternoon at Gladiator Training School. I hope to enroll about 25 travelers. Parents are welcome to enroll as travelers, however only CRLS faculty members will be chaperones.

Given the brevity of time, fundraising for the trip will start immediately after the meeting. The Friends of CRLS offers travel scholarships to students who are eligible for free or reduced lunch. Any donations toward the trip can be made in the form of a check made out to: "CRLS Latin Club - Italy Trip fund."  Please contact Maria Giacchino, the Latin teacher, if you have any questions: mgiacchino@cpsd.us
CRLS IS GOING TO TURKEY!

Student Trip to TURKEY - April 2014(Spring break) or June 2014
There will be a trip to Turkey for students in April 2014(spring break) or June 2014. Besides seeing the ancient sites of the Roman, Byzantine and Ottoman Empires that they learned about in their history classes, our students will meet people from different cultural and economical backgrounds, have a chance to share a meal with Turkish families and be aware of a country that is filled with history and natural beauty and people who are extremely hospitable and generous.

Please contact Mr Nigdelioglu, Physics teacher, if you have any questions: rnigdelioglu@cpsd.us
