CRLS FALL SEMESTER OPEN HOUSE

 Tuesday, September 17, 2013

CRLS Open House is an opportunity for parents to meet teachers and receive information about curriculum and course work. Coming to the CRLS Open House will help you better understand what your child is studying and how you can support your child academically throughout the semester.

Upon arrival, families and students should enter through the main lobby where you will be given a copy of your child's schedule.  During the Open House you will meet teachers in their classrooms and receive an overview of what your child is studying.

The Open House Schedule is as follows:

5:00-6:00 New this Year! Freshman Family Potluck / Orientation (Cafeteria)

6:00-6:30 Information sessions and schedule distribution (all families)

Class Presentations:

6:35-6:50 report to your child's block 1 class

6:55-7:10 report to your child's block 2 class

7:15-7:30 report to your child's block 3 class

7:35-7:50 report to your child's block 4 class

COMMUNITY HEALTH ASSESSMENT:

Please take this important survey about health in Cambridge!
The Cambridge Public Health Department wants to hear from you! The health department is conducting an online survey during the month of September as part of a comprehensive Community Health Assessment. You can help by sharing your opinion on the strengths and health needs of the city, access to health care, and your vision for a healthy Cambridge. Your input will help guide health improvement in Cambridge over the next five years. Please take the survey here: http://tinyurl.com/cphdsurvey
. Thank you for participating! For more information, visit http://www.cambridgepublichealth.org/policy-practice/public-health-accreditation/assessment.php
Latin student trip to France/Italy - Feb. Vacation 2014:

Right after the Open House, there will be a parent/student meeting for any Latin students interested in traveling to southern France and Italy over February vacation 2014. In France we will visit four of the best preserved ancient Roman sites in the world: a temple, amphitheatre, aqueduct, and theatre. In Italy, there will be stops in Milan, Cumae, Naples and Pompeii. In Rome the students will visit the major ancient sites as well as the Sistine Chapel and St. Peter's Basilica. We will wrap up the trip with an afternoon at Gladiator Training School. I hope to enroll about 25 travelers. Parents are welcome to enroll as travelers, however only CRLS faculty members will be chaperones.

Given the brevity of time, fundraising for the trip will start immediately after the meeting. The Friends of CRLS offers travel scholarships to students who are eligible for free or reduced lunch. Any donations toward the trip can be made in the form of a check made out to: "CRLS Latin Club - Italy Trip fund." The meeting for the trip will be held in room 2321 at 8:00 (right after the Open House on Tuesday, September 17th). Please contact Maria Giacchino, the Latin teacher, if you have any questions: mgiacchino@cpsd.us
DRAMA MEETING:
Important drama meeting on Wednesday, Sept. 11th at 2:45 in the Black Box Theater, Room 0601.  This is a meeting to introduce students (returning and new) to our program, shows, clubs and other after school activities/opportunities.  Any student interested in participating in Drama at CRLS this year should attend.
FALL MUSICAL:
The CRLS Musical Ragtime tells a gripping story of America during the turn of the century and the struggles for individuals from diverse backgrounds to reach the American Dream.
Ragtime will perform December 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th in the Fitzgerald Theatre.
Rehearsals begin September 16th at 2:45pm in the blackbox theater.
Join the CRLS Arts Committee:
The CRLS Arts Committee is dedicated to supporting arts programming for students in the Visual and Performing Arts.

We do this through fundraising to benefit programs, volunteering at arts performances and exhibits, and offering support to students involved in the arts.

We are involved in most events and performances, helping with tasks such as ticket sales, ushering, concessions, and sustenance during rehearsals. We help with publicity for all the openings, as well as fundraising. Each year we host an end of year "Celebrate the Arts" event to celebrate our students' successes in the Arts and offer a tribute to graduating seniors.

Volunteering is fun, and opportunities can be large or small.  We need bakers, cooks, ticket takers, ushers, concession sellers, event organizers, and publicists.  Join us! Come to our first meeting on Sep 11, 7:30, arts building basement, contact: debirenegallagher@gmail.com to learn more, follow CRLSArts on Facebook, or visit  http://tinyurl.com/CRLSArts  to sign up for our listserv.
